(b) (i) Explanation of Saponification
Saponification is the chemical reaction that occurs when a fat or oil is treated with an alkali (such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide) to produce soap and glycerol. In simpler terms, it is the process of making soap from fats and oils.
(ii)Observation When Brine is Added to Saponification Products:
When brine (a concentrated solution of sodium chloride) is added to the products of saponification, the soap may precipitate out of the solution, forming a solid layer. This is due to the formation of soap salts that are less soluble in concentrated salt solutions.
(c) (i) Definition of Reflex Action
Reflex action is an involuntary and automatic response to a specific stimulus. It occurs without conscious thought, allowing for quick reactions to potentially harmful situations.
(ii)Examples of Reflex Action in the Human Body:
1. The knee-jerk reflex (patellar reflex) when the knee is tapped.
2. The withdrawal reflex when touching something hot (pulling back your hand).
3. The blinking reflex in response to a sudden bright light or object approaching the eye.
(d) (i) Law of Conservation of Energy

There shall be three papers, Paper 1, 2 and 3 all of which must be taken. Paper 1 and 2 will be a composite paper to be taken at one sitting.
PAPER 1:
Will comprise sixty multiple choice objective questions lasting 1 hour and carrying 50 marks. Candidates will be required to answer all the questions
PAPER 2:
Will consist of two sections, Sections A and Section B.
have four or five short structured questions lasting 30 minutes and
carrying 20 marks.
Section B will consist of four essay questions. Candidates will be required to answer any two of the questions in 60 minutes for 50 marks.
PAPER 3:
Will consist of four to six compulsory questions on test of practical work.
It will last 2 hours and carry 80 marks.
