I've recently begun an analysis of the standard medical model of chronic pain (eg, Harvard Medical School 2018, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality [AHRQ] and American Academy of Family Physicians 2021) per its inefficacy, direct/indirect risks, event models, and costs (30% higher than the combined cost of cancer and diabetes in 2011) and I am finding it to be impressively lacking.
