CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS, UKRAINE—It's Good Friday in Ukraine, and i share stories of how, raised on folktales and facing tyranny through the ages, Ukrainians have kept their traditions. And maybe all that experience--resistance and storytelling--has prepared them for hte battle between good and evil happening now.
The Ukrainian word for victory means "overcoming might," that is, your limitations and ability. The Russian words for victory means something like, "after the sh**." And as a Ukrainian told me here in the mountains, if every person here can overcoming their limitations, victory will happen.
"We realize our potential to be a being by which something amazing can happen … that’s what it means to be human," she said.

CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS—Yesterday, a listener asked if I had seen the movie Civil War. Nope, I said, but today I recommend a British show that I often have on the background in the war, especially during bombings: The Detectorists, about people figuring out life while searching for buried treasure in pastoral England.
And I also speak about the British adventurer and writer Patrick Leigh Fermor, who wrote about his account in the 1930s walking across Europe, including in these Carpathian mountains, as the shadow of tyranny lengthened. The first book of that trilogy is A Time of Gifts.

Why? Because Ukrainians standing for freedom are on the same team as Americans of all sorts wishing for freedom. Ukrainians point the way to liberty; they’re willing to die for it.
Maybe Ukraine is Great Already. And maybe by helping Ukraine defeat the world’s biggest enemy of freedom, Americans can start to recover genuine freedom, ie, American can become great again.

Minister of Lies and Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov made his way to Beijing to talk with the communists from China, probably about joint plans to defeat the West. The visit and very good-natured signals from the Chinese communists do not obscure the fact that this week is not the most successful for Russia. CARPATHIAN MOUNTAINS—Yesterday, a listener asked if I had seen the movie Civil War. Nope, I said, but today I recommend a British show that I often have on the background in the war, especially during bombings: The Detectorists, about people figuring out life while searching for buried treasure in pastoral England.
And I also speak about the British adventurer and writer Patrick Leigh Fermor, who wrote about his account in the 1930s walking across Europe, including in these Carpathian mountains, as the shadow of tyranny lengthened. The first book of that trilogy is A Time of Gifts.
Did you know King Charles also has his hidden hideout in the Carpathians? Except he goes to the Romanian side, which is not under direct Russian threat ...

Marjorie Taylor-Greene made a MUGA hat: “Make Ukraine Great Again.” She was being snide, but her idea was a hit in Ukraine!
Why? Because Ukrainians standing for freedom are on the same team as Americans of all sorts wishing for freedom. Ukrainians point the way to liberty; they’re willing to die for it.
Maybe Ukraine is Great Already. And maybe by helping Ukraine defeat the world’s biggest enemy of freedom, Americans can start to recover genuine freedom, ie, American can become great again.
