So interesting to see folks campaign against New Zealanders right to know if lawmakers are making laws that unduly diminish their rights as a citizen. Eg. the Regulatory Standards Bill says that legislation should be reviewed for consistency with the principle that “legislation should not unduly diminish a person’s liberty, personal security, freedom of choice or action, or various property rights, except as necessary to provide for, or protect, any such liberty, freedom, or right of another person.” Notably the bill wouldn’t stop politicians or their officials making bad laws, but it would make it transparent that they’re doing so. https://x.com/JosephMooneyMP/status/1925759268856172615
