For centuries, state architecture and government buildings have attracted fascination from various members of the public and served as a force for design excellence, sustainability and citizen engagement around the world. Architecture, particularly public architecture, in many countries has developed alongside the nation, in response to a government and its people.
The cover feature of this issue explores the new Headquarters Building of the Prosperity Party by S7 Architects, situated at the heart of Arat kilo, the center of politics in Ethiopia’s Capital, Addis Ababa.

Hello there!
With this first edition of 2022, we at Ketema want to highlight and celebrate the architecture of learning.
At such a post-pandemic and post-conflict time we find ourselves in, it is more important than ever before, not only to re-imagine a better future but also to construct spaces that stimulate and inspire us to do so.
With the recent inauguration of the Abrehot public library by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the launch of The New Ethiopia Schools initiative by Minister of Education Berhanu Nega to re-imagine schools situated in post-conflict zones in the Amhara and Afar regions of Ethiopia, it made sense to focus our issue on places of learning, gathering and exploring.
