KOICA and the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction to hold first official National Technical Qualification Assessment exams On May 23, 2024 the experts of the Korea Human Resources Development Institute (HRD Korea), who are completing their 15th dispatch to Uzbekistan within the “National Technical Qualification Assessment and Retraining” component of Urgench project, held a wrap-up meeting with KOICA Office to report on the results of the 1-month practical seminar held with local experts. The meeting participants acknowledged with appreciation the high effectiveness and success of the seminars. As per the project plan, at the moment the experts of HRD Korea, who possess many years of vast experience, in cooperation with the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction, are planning to introduce in Uzbekistan for the first time the National Technical Qualification Assessment examination system at the national level in 3 labor occupations, such as welding, electrical assembly works and car repair and maintenance. The local employers consider these fields to be of utmost importance for the industry and country's economy. KOICA and the Preschool Education Agency hold a meeting On May 21, 2024 the Country Director of KOICA Office in Uzbekistan Mr.Shin Myong Seop and the Director of Preschool Education Agency Ms.Shin A.V . held a meeting to discuss joint cooperation issues. At the inception of the meeting, the sides underlined the effective course of works being carried out within the joint grant-aid project "Capacity Building of Early Childhood Teachers (ECT) through the Establishment of Teaching, Learning, and Development (TLD) Complex in Uzbekistan" with a budget of 11.0 mln US, and the sides also agreed on the preparatory tasks for holding a high-level groundbreaking ceremony for the center in the near future. Moreover, among the other main issues on the agenda was the elaboration of the new project concept in collaboration between the parties. Ms.Shin A.V. noted that within the ongoing KOICA project, significant results have been achieved in improving the quality of preschool education; at the same time Ms. Shin stated the need for cooperation on the implementation of a new project on the comprehensive development of the children's nutrition (healthy eating), which is of a very high importance presently. Mr. Shin Myong Seop shared with his experience, while running the KOICA's Philippines Office, about successfully implementing a 10-mln USD grant project, directed at children's healthy nutrition, and expressed his opinion that this area is a very relevant direction that shows its influence throughout the development process of children till entering the adult society. Mr. Shin expressed his readiness to organize large-scale cooperation in this direction in Uzbekistan. KOICA and the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction hold a meeting On May 20, 2024 the Country Director of KOICA Office in Uzbekistan Mr.Shin Myong Seop met with the Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mr.Musaev B.A. During the meeting, the sides acknowledged the long term cooperation since 2007 and significant results of the implemented four projects for establishment of vocational training centers in Tashkent, Samarkand, Shakhrisabz and Fergana, and they emphasized the steady execution of the ongoing KOICA’s 5th project for establishment of the vocational training center currently being implemented in Urganch city. In this regard, the sides discussed another component "National Center for Technical Qualification Evaluation and Retraining" implemented within Urgench project, which aims at training highly qualified and certified technical professionals for local and foreign labor markets. This is also reflected in the recently adopted Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (No. 267/06.05.2024). The sides also agreed to organize at a high level the ground-breaking ceremony of above Center in the near future. KOICA hosts annual Meeting with WFK Program Partner Organizations in 2024 On May 17 KOICA Office in Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with the representatives of the partner organizations within its volunteer and expert dispatch program (World Friends Korea - WFK) at the Hilton hotel in Tashkent. This seminar was organized in order to further strengthen cooperation and relationships between KOICA and partner organizations and to increase the effectiveness of WFK activities though sharing and exchange of opinions. The representatives of more than 10 partner organizations, including representatives of the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education, the representatives of higher and secondary educational institutions from the capital and regions actively participated in the event. The Country Director of KOICA Uzbekistan Office Shin Myung Seop commenced the event with introductory speech and introduced to partner organizations the reformed KOICA Volunteer Program, as well as the on-site volunteer activity system for 2024. The seminar participants used this opportunity to plan and present small-scale on-site projects directly. Active discussions took place on enhancing the KOICA Volunteer Program to increase its contribution to the development of local communities.
