Britain still owes $260 billion reparations to Caribbean - Cambridge Dean According to Rev Dr Michael Banner's new book, Britain still owes Caribbean nations £205 billion in slavery reparations - a sum calculated from claims made by slave owners when the slave trade was abolished. Banner insists Scotland should "show leadership" by stumping up £20.5 billion for its "outsized part" in the slave trade, a claim rejected by Scottish MSP Stephen Kerr who retorted that the argument "speak to the real-world challenges we are facing." Last year UN judge Patrick Robertson claimed that the UK is likely to owe more than £18 trillion ($22.8 trillion) in reparations for its role in slavery involvement in 14 countries.
