SG Climate Rally is back on 23 September 2023 in Hong Lim Park, to bring Singaporeans together for climate justice! Mark your calendar, and show up in RED! TJC will be organizing its inaugural TJFest, titled Breaking Chains: Towards Gentler Futures! TJFest is an abolitionist community arts, culture and knowledge festival. Over three weekends in July, and across three venues, TJC will have experiential workshops, film screenings, storytelling, artmaking, music, games, poetry, talks, panel discussions and community conversations over food and drink. In addition to the events, the festival also features a shop put together by ex-prisoners, called "For Sale: Objects Other Than Our Bodies", a community art installation on gentler futures, and several booths! GST hike? Stagnant wages? Skyrocketing rent and housing prices? Long working hours? Retirement inadequacy? Are you anxious about entering the workforce after your studies? This labour day (1 May 3-7pm) come to Hong Lim Park to hear a nurse, bus driver, food delivery rider, service workers, rental flat tenants, and community organisers speak about the everyday struggles, dreams, and aspirations of ordinary people in Singapore. Organised by volunteer-run local workers rights group Workers Make Possible, this year's rally will also feature 'The People's 15 Demands' that the group has compiled after many in-depth conversations with various communities. These include stopping further GST hikes, implementing universal minimum wages, unemployment benefits for all workers, and expanding overtime pay to many more workers among many others. Expect an exciting and uplifting event accompanied by pop, rock, rap and punk performers alongside folk songs that our working class elders used to sing in the past. Various community groups will also have their own booths promoting their various activities they are working on.
