There is a public hearing on digital ID tomorrow, that seems to have only just been announced. It doesn't appear to be on any mainstream channel and therefore will slip under the radar. Some of you may remember the Data (Use and Access) Bill from last year (https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3825#timeline). Well that particular bill received Royal Assent and became law in June 2025. (https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/data-use-and-access-act-2025) It's probably worth reading it all if you want to understand where the government would like to take us but, if you're only interested in the digital ID aspect then, in Part 2 of the Act there is a section called "Digital Verification Services" (https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2025/18/part/2/enacted). If you've signed the petition - brilliant. Keep sharing it and encourage others to do the same. However, this new law demonstrates the importance of local connections based on trust and shared values.

We need to remember that this was never in Labour's manifesto. They do not have a mandate.

🚨 Stealth Tax Alert — And You Didn’t Vote for It 🚨 Since 2021, the UK government has frozen income tax thresholds — and plans to keep them frozen until 2028. That means more of your income could be taxed, even if your real earnings haven’t increased. This is called fiscal drag — and it’s quietly pulling millions into higher tax bands. The Office for Budget Responsibility estimates this will raise £29.3 billion a year by 2027–28. All without annual votes in Parliament. This freeze bypasses the spirit of the Rooker-Wise Amendment (1977), which was meant to stop stealth tax rises by requiring annual inflation-linked adjustments to tax thresholds, unless Parliament explicitly voted annually otherwise.
