Caution:
No need to panic. The percentage of refusal from within Canada for the study permit processing is not scary but it could be if the terms and regulations guiding the study permit are violated.

| 3 | Some highlights in the soon-to-be-announced PGWP changes identified by GCMSWriters are that future international students and graduates will be required to provide:
• a job offer letter to extend the PGWP beyond 1 year;
• a language test result even if the completed study was done in advanced English language;
AND ALSO:
• the PGWP program will now be accessed by international graduates based on occupation in-demand jobs and the level/course of study eligibility;
• IRCC may work with provinces to identify international graduates who are skilled and qualified to transition into any in-demand jobs based on eligibility.

| 5 | WARNING⚠️
If the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requests updated documents, and if the deadline cannot be met, before the opened column shows "overdue," use the webform to request an extension. Do not use the webform to forward the requested documents after the column opened for the upload in the online account shows overdue. | 0 |

| 8 | Quick Reminder:
Instead of the September 1, 2024, window set by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for the ineligibility of international students studying in a Public-Private College Partnership (PPCP) program for the Postgraduate Work Permit (PGWP) has been brought down to May 15, 2024.
Any international student studying in a PPCP program from or after May 15, 2024, will become ineligible for the PGWP after graduation. However, this set of international students may still be eligible for a different type of work to fill any labor shortage in the province of study after their study completion.

| 10 | Who is now eligible for the Spouse's Open Work Permit (SOWP) to come to Canada, as 'officially' announced on March 19, 2024, by IRCC?
Read the full post for insightful digestion.
Pick of the Announcement:
Quoting IRCC:
If the applicant is extending their open work permit on or after March 19
Applicants extending their open work permit are eligible for an open work permit under this stream. In such cases, the principal applicant must meet the requirements that were in place before March 19, 2024.

| 11 | It's testimony time again but this time it is for a reapplication for a Spouse's Open Work Permit (SOWP) after a previous refusal. What was done differently was including more sufficient documentation to respond to the officer's grounds of concern.
Secondly, a detailed and straightforward response was given using "two (2) SOWP Letters of Explanation (LOE)" to tackle the concerns in the generic refusal letter and the other gave concise analyses of the significance of the trip to Canada (to the family).
The application processing took "24 days" to get approved.

| 13 | British Columbia has started the issuance of the "provincial Attestation Letter" in support of the study permit application to Canada🇨🇦. Approach your school for the 'PAL' if you are studying in the BC province.
The same goes for the "Alberta province" but is yet to officially publicize the announcement. | 0 |
| 14 | If you are considering using a corporate bank statement for your study visa or permit application, support it with a savings/personal bank statement which should be the primary proof.
For a reason that the corporate bank account is the only available sufficient proof of funds, including a "Board Resolution Letter, Tax Clearance Certificate, and Contract Agreement Letter" should not be overlooked. | 0 |
| 15 | Until the official announcement of the new rules (in the coming weeks) that could make an applicant ineligible for the Spouse Open Work Permit, the common denial reasons in the photo should be watched out for.
Additionally, if you meet the rules/requirements of the route now, and for a reason(s) you think that meeting the eligibility of the coming changes might be difficult or not certain, waste no time and apply now! | 0 |
| 16 | Immigration, refugees, and Citizenship Canada announced that the "Pearson Test of English (PTE)" will now be accepted as part of its recognized Language Proficiency test for applicants required to give one. | 0 |
| 17 | Study Permit Processing Paused!
According to the verified X page of Canada's Immigration Minister; Marc Miller, study permit application processing has been put on hold by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada until "March 31, 2024," to enable provinces and territories to establish a properly coordinated process in obtaining the "Letter of Attestation." | 0 |
| 18 | Changes to the Canadian Study Permit effect from January 22, 2024.
Key Takeouts:
•| For 2024, the cap is expected to result in approximately 360,000 approved study permits, a decrease of 35% from 2023.
•| To implement the cap, as of January 22, 2024, every study permit application submitted to IRCC will also require an attestation letter from a province or territory.
•| Provinces and territories are expected to establish a process for issuing attestation letters to students by no later than March 31, 2024.
•| In order to better align the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program, we are changing the eligibility criteria: | 0 |
| 19 | Essentiality of the GCMS Notes:
If your Canadian study permit has stayed longer than the estimated processing time at the time of submission, it's advised to request the GCMS notes to help understand the cause of the delay and/or the processing stage of the application.
Upon receiving the notes, if the "Eligibility" reads "Passed," it signifies the application has been approved even if the GcKey or IRCC Portal account still displays "...application still in processing" or "...reviewing if you meet the eligibility" and the final decision stating "...a decision has not been reached." The same applies if the eligibility reads failed signifying the application has been denied.

| 20 | Season's Greetings!!
There is a growing panic among study permit applicants that after being re-directed to the GcKey payment gateway, and upon an unsuccessful application fee payment and/or computer or network glitch, the procedure is halted.
When starting again by signing into the GcKey account, there will be no "clickable link or column" as shown in the photo with a red pointed arrow.
If this is experienced, don't be bothered. Just give it between 2 - 24 hours for the "continuing an application" column to reappear. | 0 |
