Press Statement (for immediate release) Mogadishu, Somalia June 16, 2021 The Foreign Ministers of of Somalia and Kenya, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud and H.E. Amb. Raychelle Omamo , today spoke on telephone. The exchange between the two Ministries was warm and cordial. Both ministers reconfirmed the need to expeditiously reopen their two respective Missions of Kenya and Somalia in Nairobi and Mogadishu, and emphasized the importance of normalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Ministers expressed a strong wish to improve trade, security and cultural relations between Somalia and Kenya. Today President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed "Farmaajo" announced that the Federal Government of Somalia "With regards to Somalia’s efforts to hold peaceful, inclusive and timely elections, my government would welcome the role of the African Union in facilitating a Somali-led and Somali-owned engagement process that would lead to dialogue among all Somali stakeholders." #Somalia #Somali #AU

Foreign Minister extends condolences on the death of former Somali President Ali Mahdi Mogadishu, March 11, 2021 - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud, expressed his deep condolences and his sincere feelings of compassion following the death of the former President of Somalia, Ali Mahdi Mohamed, on Wednesday evening in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, after being hospitalized as a result of his deteriorating health in recent days, and extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Somali people. In his message, the minister said, "We were greatly saddened by the news of the death of our former president. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very difficult and tragic time, asking Allah to bless the deceased with his mercy and forgiveness, grant him a high position in his spacious paradise, and inspire his family and relatives with patience and solace." Somalia's ambassador hands over his credentials to Ugandan President Kampala, March 10, 2021 - The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Mr. Ali Mohamed Mohamud Agabarur, presented his credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, at an event held on Wednesday at the Presidential Palace in Kampala. The ambassador conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed "Farmaajo", to His Excellency the Ugandan President, and the desire of Somalia to move forward towards more cooperation and partnership between the two friendly countries in various fields. For his part, H.E. Yoweri Museveni stressed that the security and stability of Somalia are of special importance to his country & all African nations, praising the role of his country's soldiers in the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM), saying that he supports all efforts made to restore Somalia's international and regional status.
