Astronomers have discovered the closest to Earth binary white dwarf with an extremely low mass A group of scientists reported the results of observations of the system J0500-0930. In it found a double dwarf. The mass of one of its components is 0.17 solar masses. It is located about 233 light years from the Sun. Its companion is a faint white dwarf with a mass greater than 0.3 solar masses, the period of rotation of dwarfs around each other was about 9.5 hours. The white dwarfs are expected to merge in a few tens of billions of years. This could lead to a Type Ia supernova explosion.

Makemake is one of the largest objects in the outer solar system This Kuiper Belt celestial body is about two-thirds the size of Pluto, and its orbit is slightly farther than Pluto's and its brilliance is slightly fainter. Makemake is a reddish world whose colors suggest that the planet is most likely covered by a patchy layer of icy methane. No photos of Makemake's surface are available yet, so the photo above is an image in the artist's view.

Where does Jupiter get its rings? The main ring of Jupiter was discovered in 1979 by the Voyager 1 spacecraft, but its origin was then a mystery! Galileo data confirmed the hypothesis that the ring was created by meteoroids striking small nearby satellites. When a small meteoroid collides with the small satellite Metida, for example, it evaporates and ejects dust and other debris into orbit around Jupiter. This infrared image of Jupiter from the James Webb Space Telescope shows not only Jupiter and its clouds, but also this ring.

Astronaut candidates undergo a series of rigorous tests One of them is staying in a special sealed, soundproof room, sometimes with weak artificial light, called a FLOTATION TANK. That's how candidates are tested for mental toughness. Potential occupants may be kept there for one or two weeks at a time and sometimes they are not allowed to sleep for 24 hours a day.In such conditions, hallucinations can strike. Some people think that the walls close in and out before their eyes, others can clearly see small animals, and still others hear the music of Bach and Beethoven.

Old infrared telescopes reveal secrets of nearby galaxies NASA and ESA have published images of four galaxies close to the Milky Way. Their peculiarity is that they were derived from data from space telescopes that have already completed their mission. The telescope was often unable to detect light from scattered clouds on the outskirts of galaxies. So the researchers supplemented its maps with data from three other "retired" space missions: Planck, IRAS and COBE. The collaboration of four telescopes allowed scientists to obtain detailed infrared images of the Andromeda Galaxy (pictured), the Triangle Galaxy, and the Large and Small Magellanic Clouds.

What would happen to our Moon if the Earth were shaped like a doughnut? Most likely, it would be pulled toward the hole, and it would bob up and down in the center of the planet. Or it could be affected by the gravity of the outer edges of the doughnut to create an octagonal orbit around the Earth.

The planetary nebula Gantel close-up! This level of detail can be achieved using an amateur telescope with a diameter of only 200mm. With a monochrome camera and narrow band filters, it is quite possible to take pictures even in the city limits. By choosing the right shooting parameters and skillfully processing the material, it is possible to achieve a neat and detailed picture.
