The 1936 rally was titled the “Rally of Honor,” celebrating the German re-occupation of the Rhineland earlier that year. The setting itself was a enormous: the Zeppelin Field was designed by Albert Speer to hold up to 200,000 people, featuring the “Cathedral of Light”—152 anti-aircraft searchlights aimed at the sky to create a sense of infinite walls of light.
