Hey Solarpunk people, I'd like to ask for a little bit of support. Bear with me, I'll explain: TL;DR Project is to breed a free variety of Rye. They need 30,000 Euros for funding, but have only 23,000 so far. Deadline is June 3rd, 2022. 🌱 Link: https://www.startnext.com/en/roggen Many seeds that are commercially available are controlled by a single company - no one may grown them on their own, but have to pay every year. These companies are heaviliy concentrated capitalist enterprises. If farmers can't pay the seeds, they can't grow food, and prices rise even higher. 💰 Open Source Seeds take an idea from software (free licenses) to achieve the opposite: Create seeds that are (and will be forever) free to use, remix and grow on your own, wherever you are. To me personally, this serves one of the main ideas in Solarpunk: Food autonomy. 💚 This special project tries to free one staple crop, Rye (used for bread, beer, vodka, ...) in the temperate climate.
