Al-Hasan al-Baṣrī رحمه الله said: إذا كثرت ذنوب العبد فلم يكن في عمله ما يكفرها سُلِّط عليه الغموم فتكون كفارةً لذنوبه.

If a servant’s sins become numerous and he has no deeds that will expiate them, Allah afflicts him with worries and grief, making them an expiation for his sins.

Ahsan al-Ṣāliḥīn (2957)

Sheikh Rabee bin Hadi رحمه الله said,

Those who boast about their deeds are destined for ruin we seek refuge in Allah from such.

Ahmad ibn Hanbal (رحمه الله) used to say: «اللَّهُمَّ لَا تُمْتِنَا خَيْرَ مَا عِنْدَكَ بِشَرِّ مَا عِنْدَنَا» O Allah, do not deprive us of the good that is with You because of the evil that is with us. Tabaqāt al-Hanābilah (1/205)

No one lives without sacrifice. The real question is for whom will you tire out? Ibn al-Qayyim said: من رغب عن التعب لله؛ ابتُلي بالتعب في خدمة الخلق ولا بدّ

Whoever does not tire himself for the sake of Allāh will undoubtedly be tried with fatigue in the service of (others in) creation.

Ibn al-Jawzi’s (رحمه الله) question still awaits an answer: Do you wish to enter Paradise by doing the deeds of the people of Hell?

THE SERVANT IS TESTED WITH OTHERS As for wealth and poverty, these are trials that ALLĀH decrees for a reason, as HE says:

وَجَعَلۡنَا بَعۡضَكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٍ فِتۡنَةً WE have made some of you as a trial for others

The Messenger ﷺ is a trial for those to whom he is sent, a test to see who will obey and who will disobey, and We test the Messengers by giving them the mission of calling people. The rich man is a trial for the poor man, and the poor man is a trial for the rich man - and so on, with all types of people in this world, which is the realm of trials and tests. The purpose of that test is to see:

أَتَصۡبِرُونَۗ Will you have patience?

And do what you are supposed to do, in which case your Lord will reward you, or will you fail to be patient and thus deserve the punishment? {Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

"Your provision (rizq) is coming to you, even if you were tied up with ropes."

"When you supplicate to Allah, does it befit the status of supplication to be accompanied by tunes/melodies? How do we raise our hands to Allah seeking His mercy and answer, then disobey Him in what He has forbidden for us? We seek His pleasure through supplication, so how can we be content with disobeying Him at the same time? Allah is independent of us, and we are the needy towards Him; so do not make supplication accompanied by what Allah has forbidden, and fear the One whose mercy you hope for. Exalt the One you supplicate to, for He, glorified be He, is not in need of you; rather, you are the ones who cannot do without Him."

إذا قال الغرب: «لسنا أعداء للإسلام»؛ فإما أنهم يكذبون، أو لسنا على الإسلام الصحيح. ﴿وَلَن تَرْضَىٰ عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَىٰ حَتَّىٰ تَتَّبِعَ مِلَّتَهُمْ﴾ (الشيخ عبد العزيز الطريفي) ​"If the West says: 'We are not enemies of Islam,' then either they are lying, or we are not practicing true Islam." Allah says :"And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion." (Quran 2:120) #Shaykh_Abdul_Aziz_At_Taref May Allah free him

قال ابن تيمية رحمه الله: "لا يحل لأحد أن يقنط من رحمة الله ولو عظمت ذنوبه" (الفتاوى 16/19) #Shaykh_ul_Islām_Ibn_Taymiyyah رحمه الله said: "It is not permissible for anyone to despair of Allah's mercy, no matter how great their sins may be." (Al-Fatawa 19/16)

​قال ابن تيمية رحمه الله: "ليس الشرك عبادة الأصنام فحسب، بل هو أيضًا متابعتك لهواك، وأن تختار مع ربك شيئًا سواه من الدنيا وما فيها.." (مجموع الفتاوى 518/10) #Shaykh_ul_Islām_Ibn_Taymiyyah رحمه الله said: "Shirk (polytheism) is not merely the worship of idols; rather, it is also following your own desires, and preferring something alongside your Lord from this world and whatever is in it." (Majmoo' al-Fatawa 10/518)

​"Whoever borrows something from someone else, let him return it to him... Return trusts to their rightful owners... ​When Hassan bin Abi Sufyan died, he was seen in a dream, And it was said to him: What did Allah do with you? He said: I am detained from Paradise because of a needle I borrowed and did not return to its owner. [Al-Zahr Al-Fai'h by Ibn Al-Jazari (69)]"

Ibn al Qayyim رحمه الله said, ‎

The evil eye is like an arrow released from the envier. If it finds the victim exposed, it strikes him but if he is protected with the adhkar it does not affect him.

Yahya ibn Mu'adh said,

The body becomes sick due to ailments, and the heart becomes sick due to sins. So just as the body does not find pleasure in eating while it is sick, likewise the heart does not experience the sweetness of worship alongside sins.

[Dhamm al-Hawaa pg 68]

Sheikh Muhammad ibn Salih al-'Uthaymeen mentioned the following in his explanation of Riyadh al-Saliheen: [مهما عملت من الأعمال الصالحة لا تعجب بعملك فعملك قليل بالنسبة لحق الله عليك ]

Whatever kind of good deeds you do, do not become amazed with your own actions, for your deeds are quite small in comparison to Allah's right over you.

Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) said: It is not a matter of you loving Allāh; Rather, the matter is that Allāh loves you. and Allāh does not love you unless you follow His beloved (ﷺ), outwardly and inwardly (in what is apparent and what is hidden). [Madarij as-Salikeen, 3/39, Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah)]

فالتوحيد حِصْنُ الله الأعظمُ الذي مَنْ دَخَلَهُ كان من الآمنين؛ قال بعض السلف: مَنْ خَافَ الله، خافَهُ كُلُّ شيء، ومَنْ لَمْ يَخَفِ الله، أخافَهُ اللهُ من كل شيء

Tawhīd is Allah’s greatest fortress. Whoever enters it shall find safety. Some of the righteous predecessors said: Whoever fears Allāh, everything will fear him, and whoever doesn't fear Allāh, Allāh will make him fear everything.

• فقه الأدعية والأذكار

مَن أحبّك، أوصَاكَ بالطَّاعات  Whoever loves you will encourage you to obey Allāh.

يقول الشاعر:

العلم يرفع بيت لا عماد له والجهل يهدم بيت العز والشرف

Knowledge will raise a house that has no support, and ignorance will destroy a house of might and honor.
