The USS George Washington will be heading to Japan this fall to replace the USS Ronald Reagan. It was docked at Norfolk VA undergoing upgrades and repairs and has experienced one of the highest suicide trends when compared to other US carriers. The military officials won't tell the public, but suicides have been on the rise across all services. Suicides are also on the rise with National Guard members both on orders, and not on orders. Something has changed in the military. When a service sees a spike in suicides among its members, it usually does what we call a "Down Day" to train and educate its work force on the signs leading up to suicide. It also educates the work force that mental and spiritual health services are available who have feelings of suicides. I Haven't seen a down day since USSF was created (20 Dec 2019).
