01.018 DESIGN THINKING PROJECT I (DTPI)
The project theme is about Cannon quest.
Student helpers are needed to facilitate this design challenge. The selected students will need to attend one briefing session with the instructors.
🗓 Event Dates:
1) 14 Nov – Set-up (TBC)
2) 17 & 18 Nov – Set-up on 17 Nov + Trial
3) 20 & 21 Nov – Design Challenge + Tear down on 21 Nov

Annotation Opportunity: Cultural Question Answering (Chinese/Malay/Tamil)
SUTD's Social AI Studio is seeking 👥 15 Student Annotators for a cultural data collection project.
We are looking for:
• 5 Chinese students fluent in written Mandarin
• 5 Malay students fluent in written Malay
• 5 Indian students fluent in written Tamil
🗓 Timeline: Flexible start date, with a target completion by 25th August 2025.
⏰ Estimated Commitment: ~5 hours total.
🎁 Compensation: $100 SGD upon successful completion.
📝 What You'll Do:
• Answer 500 short, open-ended cultural questions in your native language (Chinese, Malay, or Tamil). For example: “What is the biggest festival in Singapore?” (Displayed in respective languages)

Evaluation Opportunity: Invitation to Participate in a Study on Humor Styles and Meme Perception
Dear Students/Participants,
We are conducting a research study at SUTD exploring how individuals perceive and evaluate memes, and how these responses relate to different humor styles and viewpoints on current issues.
We would like to invite you to take part in this study, which involves providing basic demographic information (gender, age, race, highest education level completed), completing a set of tasks including a short questionnaire on humor styles, indicating your agreement with viewpoints relevant to a news article, and evaluating a series of memes relevant to the news article. The session will take approximately 1 hour and will be conducted in person at SUTD, in Building 2, room 2.316.
Eligibility:
• SUTD students aged 18 years or above, or healthy non-SUTD volunteers aged 21 years or above
• Proficient in English (as all materials are in English)
• Familiar with meme culture
As a token of appreciation, participants who complete the study will receive a S$20 CapitaLand voucher. Please note that reimbursement will only be provided upon full completion of the task.

National STEM Championship (NSTEMC) 2025 – Semi Final
Looking for 4 student volunteers to facilitate a drone-related challenge and assist with campus tour. The selected students will need to attend one briefing session with the workshop instructors.
Expecting around 16 Secondary 3 / Grade 9 students, Science Centre Singapore and MediaCorp crews. The whole event will be filmed by MediaCorp team.

SUTD's Social AI Studio is seeking 👥 2 Annotators: 1 fluent in Malay, 1 fluent in Tamil.

• Verify the translations of 500 short cultural-specific questions provided in a Google spreadsheet.
• Revise and correct any inaccurate or unnatural translations to ensure high quality.
• Candidates must be fluent in either Malay or Tamil.
• Requires strong attention to detail and linguistic nuance.

Evaluation Opportunity - Descriptions and Narratives of Singapore-related, US-politics-related and COVID-19-related memes
We're seeking 👥10 human annotators.
🗓 Duration: 22 April to 2 May.
⏰ Total Commitment: 6.5 hours (1.5 hours for briefing and training + 5 hours for main evaluation).
Commitment requirement: Participants are required to be physically present in the school for both the briefing/training and the evaluation. They are free to split up the duration of the main evaluation over multiple days, they simply need to inform Jia Wang on which days/times they prefer.
🗣 Candidate Requirements: Human evaluators should be familiar with both
1. Singapore culture, including jargon used in National Service.
2. US-politics, including prominent political figures and parties.
While the preference is familiarity in both, interested participants who fulfill one of the above knowledge criteria are still welcome to apply.
Evaluators will be assigned to either one of the tasks:
1) Evaluate the accuracy of the target-aspect-opinion-sentiment quadruples describing the memes.
2) Given various memes and a narrative, select the meme that least fits the narrative. And given memes and a narrative, evaluate the narrative and cluster quality.
