Qalibaf mocks US Treasury chief: 'Look at your bond yields—they're on fire'
🔹Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf responded to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's inflated claims—including the assertion that 130 million barrels of oil had passed through Hormuz in two weeks—by reposting an article by Nobel laureate Paul Krugman exposing Bessent's "absolute failure" in market management and dishonesty.
🔹Qalibaf told Bessent: "The real 130s are 130 billion dollars in war costs (per Moody's Analytics), or 130 million dollars in losses for a company secretly intervening in oil paper markets on behalf of the US government—which Iran has uncovered."
🔹He added: "Look at your Treasury bond yields—they're on fire." The 30-year US Treasury yield has surged to around 5.3%, the highest since 2008, as investors reject Treasury efforts to stabilize long-term bond prices.
