Mailserver on local net using VPS IP as external IP Hello. I want to set up my own mailserver, but the problem is my ISP isn't supporting static IPs. Therefor I had an idea, where I would pay for a VPS, and use something like wireguard to connect up to the VPS from the mailserver, and use the VPS' public IP for sending and receiving mails. Does anyone know if this is possible? I would imagine it is, and that I would need to use some IP table rules to make it work with wireguard.   I am open for other ideas, as long as it is not anything about running it on the VPS, and that the connection between the VPS and mailserver is encrypted.   Anyone on here who have tried something similar? https://redd.it/nfekax @r_SelfHosted

Web hosting security I have Verizon FIOS, static IP, and domain names. Behind the FIOS router I have a LAN with development and staging boxes, Synergy NAS, and a box that I can dedicate as a production web server. But, as a network know-little, I‘m hyper-nervous about exposing the web server to the wild web. So, questions: 1. Can I safely serve if I add a managed switch to my LAN and put the web server on a VLAN? 2. If so, recommended switches? 3. How then should I configure the FIOS router? Help with NGINX Proxy Manager + Blocked ISP Ports Hello, everyone! I recently installed NGINX Proxy Manager and was wanting to do urls like prefix.domainname.com without port numbers. Unfortunately, I have a huge suspicion that my ISP Blocks port 80 and 443 on my network, and I am trying to find a working solution so I would be able to get the needed SSL certs and securely get to some of the apps on my server without opening a bunch of ports. Does anyone know of a self hosted image and video wall/collage/mosaic? Something that you can drag and drop images and videos onto that will automatically sort them into a nice grid. Honestly I can't really even find much of anything, even non-selfhosted stuff. Perhaps it's a problem with me not knowing exactly how to google something like this. Anyways though, what I'm looking for is something that you can drag and drop images and videos onto that would automatically sort them into a neat collage. Ideally it would auto-sort them, but then if I wanted to resize one or two, or move some around, I could do that too. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Even if you're aware of something that does this even if it's not self hosted, that would help immensely too, because that would at least give me something to use when googling. Looking For: Self Hosted Content Snare Alternative Hopefully this question is ok. Apologies to the admin in advance if not. I am looking for a self hosted alternative to Content Snare. A system for gathering content from clients e.g. website clients. I make a form (of sorts) detailing what is required. eg Page title(Short text), main image(image upload), Main content text (textbox) etc. Has anyone seen a selfhosted or even FOSS alternative? Expanding and growing knowledge... Hi all, Okay. Started with a Qnap and docker a few years ago. - Since I have been gifted an older Synology 16 bay NAS, that is my main storeage server. On the Qnap I have a complex set of scripts and docker composer files that starts about 30 services, paperless-ng, webserver, db, nextcloud, all bound together with nguix proxy manager. - Due to performance issues with the qnap, I have moved the more "sensitive" apps to the synology, also run via docker compose, to ensure swift responce on my network. (pi-hole etc). Finally I have a DO server hosting only mailcow instance. So... All in all I have been happy, however it is quite complicated. Further to this I need a bit of CPU power for eg. gallery generation. (Photo prism and 60.000 pictures). I have been able to free up a reasonably fast computer I can add to my servers, but I struggle in how to manage all of my services. I have read about proxmox, swarm etc, but are yet to take that approach. - Then today I read about CapRover. Will it make sense to make a RPI4 a caprover master, and let this control the 3 nodes (CPU/GFX heavy) computer for eg plex and gallery, and qnap/synology for the lighter services, like dns, nextcloud? News feed and POD cast aggregator I'm looking for a self hosted news aggregator and POD Cast downloader. I have looked at a number of solutions from the awesome-selfhosted GitHub page. Including: CommaFeed Feedbin Lesely TinyRSS RSS Monster Winds All of them cover most of the aspects I'm wanting. Here is a list of requirements: RSS/XML/News feed Download the article to preserve the content Images, links and text (links would be external of this) Auto-syncing (would be nice to have settings to change the timeout, etc) Easy Subscribe (something like ArchiveBox, button on the favorite bar would be great) Dead Feed / Empty Feed detection and troubleshooting info Rules To flag certain articles with category or importance To archive automatically (topics that doesn't interest me or my users) POD Casts Download the cast Nice to haves Client sync-able library of casts Follow RSS Feeds for POD Casts Users Multiple users with different permission levels (user and admin would be fine) Sharable content between users (to where the system isn't downloading the same content multiple times and taking up more storage) LDAP Authentication would be nice, but not needed. I know this is still a basic list of requirements, but I haven't found a solution that could do all of these. Where would it make the most sense to place a VPN server? (NAS, Pi, Docker inside NAS or Router) Basically title... Very torn between which would make the most sense... Looking for a Self Hosted Video Site for Local Videos with YTDL Metadata I have downloaded lots of videos from various sources that don't fall into the traditional Movies or TV Show types, these videos have all been downloaded with Youtube-DL and all the Metadata saved into an info.json file along with any subs and images. I would like a Self Hosted app, where I can view all of these videos in one place, with all the correct metadata showing (Description, Uploader, Series (if available) etc), with a YouTube style Web Frontend. Ideally, I would like to create Channels or Playlist to group some of the things together. Also, ideally, it would preserve my current folder structure, so I dont have to import all of them into the app and it arranges it. I have looked at a few options that I have found online, but most seem to trip up on the Metadata part, or just don't fit my needs. Simple (?) question about IP Forwarding in Debian/Raspberry Pi OS Hey! Im going to build a little server system for my home network with some raspberry pi's.I want to get one of these, to act as a Firewall between my Raspberry's and the rest of the network, but I also want to use the subnet of my router. The Firewall Pi is getting a second Network Interface over USB, so one Interface is pointing to the normal local network and the other ones to my Pi's. So if I activate IP Forwarding, are the clients behind this firewall get their IPs still from the DHCP of my Router? https://redd.it/neqwni @r_SelfHosted

What options do I have for my set-up? Do I want a reverse proxy? Long story short, I wanna host some stuff at home but don't wanna have to port-forward or expose my public IP. An example of something small would be bitwarden_rs sitting on a Raspberry Pi. My idea is if I wanted to access bitwarden.domain.com, that would be redirected to my server up in the cloud which initiates a proxy session with my server at home, therefore I don't have to expose my public IP or do any port forwarding. Anyway, I already have a couple of servers up in the cloud and I'm not against spinning another one up if I have to. I was going to use boringproxy.io, it looks great, but it's not actively developed. Nginx Reverse Proxy springs to mind but I'm not sure if this is what I want. What do you guys think? Alternative self hosted password manager? Can anyone recommend an alternative self hosted password manager other than vaultwarden? Finding concise non-docker installation notes is an issue I can't work around. I understand docker is all the eager but if your running LCVs docker isn't the best approach. How can I put a git server (using HTTP) and cgit behind caddy? I'm trying to play around with using a git server + cgit as a replacement for gitea since gitea is pretty overkill for my use case. What I want is this: git.domain points to cgit. like git.domain/myrepo The part I'm struggling with is having a git server also listen at that same url so that I can push/pull over HTTP(s) at the same url that cgit shows me. I've tried to use separate cgit and git server containers, but I'm not sure how to differentiate the requests to the right container to make git push work. I'm imagining I have to write my own docker image with like nginx to serve git repos and cgit at the same time? I have 0 experience with nginx so I'm pretty lost. Resources I'm able to find talk about installing nginx for either cgit or to serve repos but not both together. Or can I combine this and this with some caddy magic? Personal Private Website Question? I'm not sure what is the right terminology I need but I tried searching around and didn't see what I was looking for so I apologize in advanced if this is already posted somewhere. I want to be able to go to a private website like "mycoolwebsite.private" where the TLD is not a real name. I want to be able to access this website from my phone, laptop, desktop. Is this possible? Is what I'm looking for called a VPN? If someone can give me the right terminology that help start me off that would be appreciated. I saw for something like AWS you can create "Private Hosted Zones" but these zones are only accessible once your inside the VPC if I understand these correctly. So I'm guessing I can create a private hosted zone and somehow create an interface for me to connect or ssh into the VPC if I were on my laptop/desktop. This might be tricky on a mobile phone. First attempt at making my house a smart home So, I attended an IoT course where they used a bunch of devices, connected to the internet via an Arduino Nano-WiFi ESP combo routed through an unmentioned paid MQTT service, and the UI was accessible via Adafruit. The devices themselves were placed in a small model, therefore using one Arduino was viable. This is however not scalable. I was thinking I could set up my house with WiFi enabled devices, connected to mosquitto, using Google Home as the UI. I am a complete beginner, so this approach might be stupid. Any help or advice on how I can go about this is appreciated. What I want is, a bunch of devices in my house any of my family can control remotely with only their phones (3 Androids and one iPhone). Voice control is not necessary. Advice on which devices I should purchase would also be appreciated. For reference, I would prefer the devices to be WiFi reliant with a hardware fallback, instead of Zigbee, ZWave, etc. as that would be more investment for the adapters etc. I have a spare desktop with a dual core hyperthreaded 3rd gen i3 which I could use as a (linux) server hooked up with LAN.
