Retrogaming: hosting a dockered server that allow to play via browser... Is there something good and easy, around? Do you know if there is some dockered software, reachable via browser, for doing retrogaming? Question 2: retrogaming requires, yet, that you have the original rom? In othet world, is it illegal? https://redd.it/nispld @r_SelfHosted

Cardinal WLC Hey, anyone here ever use cardinal WLC. I have some old cisco 3700APS i got out of a uninstall job. Wanted to set them up. Ideally, I would run it in docker. https://redd.it/nir6rv @r_SelfHosted

Should I host Matrix/Synapse on its own subdomain? I use 'app.mydomain.com' with subfolders for all of my reverse proxies, and am wondering if I'm at any sort of risk if I use the same subdomain for Matrix/Synapse as well? https://redd.it/niq12j @r_SelfHosted

Personcal Car management system I am looking for personal car management system, the best would be if it is selfhosted. What I am looking for is a place where I can put all relevant information about my car, what parts I have installed, where services took place and info about refueling. Right now I am using Google Sheets for that... Do you have any recomendations? https://redd.it/niec1d @r_SelfHosted

Help tunnelling local Plex to Hetzner VPS So I've been hosting Plex locally on my home computer. However, my ISP uses CGNAT and doesn't allow port forwarding, so I'm unable to use remote access. I was wondering if there was a way to route only my Plex traffic to my VPS on Hetzner to enable remote access. I was looking into WireGuard cause some previous post mentioned it, but I couldn't make much sense of what to do. If anyone knows a Storage VPS that lets me shift my Plex to the cloud completely without having to spend on a dedicated server, I'd appreciate that too https://redd.it/nie4xt @r_SelfHosted

Bandwidth monitoring? I’m trying to understand the bandwidth usage per device at home. As a quick approach I set up a raspberry pi 4 as access point but it crashed after a few minutes. Is there a more solid, stable solution? I would like to know how much bandwidth is used by both wireless and Ethernet connected devices. Any help is appreciated. https://redd.it/nib7de @r_SelfHosted

Can a home server be used to backup data? This might be a dumb question, but I am looking into making a home serve for fun. I am not sure of all the uses, but I have been thinking that it would be great to backup all my school work on! I do not know if this is possible. Also, could I store applications (steam games, solid works, and other stuff) on it to free up space (can I only use them if I am home)? Is there any other good uses for a server that I am missing? Thanks in advance! https://redd.it/nian8v @r_SelfHosted

Shift tracking method that interfaces via caldev? I've just set up a Nextcloud calendar for my SO & I to share schedules. Due to MicroG my shift-work tracking app still works but appears not to sync when I tell it to (via DAVx5). Suspect it's heavily Giggle reliant. I'm looking for an alternative that would let me quickly enter in preconfigured events to my schedule that I could then sync to our shared calendar. It doesn't have to be android, I can do it on a computer, but so far I keep coming up with articles recommending google calendar or random apps that have no syncing capacity. Anyone familiar with something that could work? My current 'best solution' is to export the .ics but it's pretty inelegant and prone to missing a shift swap etc. https://redd.it/nhlmc4 @r_SelfHosted

VNet noob question Hi r/selfhosted, long time lurker, first time poster. I have a question that I have not been able to answer via google/stackexchange, likely because I'm lacking the underlying fundamental knowledge. Anyway, I have an ESXi 6.5 running on a machine, with a few VMs (Plex, OpenVPN, PiHole, etc) that are accessible via my network, but not accessible via the internet and I would like to keep it that way. I would like to setup a VM (that will essentially be a web server) that is completely cut off from my home network and other VMs. That is to say, I want to treat it the same way I do my DO server, only accessible via the internet. I unfortunately don't have any fancy hardware other than my router/ap/modem and a unmanaged Netgear switch. Is it possible with what I have? Not asking for a tutorial or anything, but something to point me in the right direction. Thanks! Note: The Digital Ocean web server hosts a few client websites and isn't something I want to change for this. The self hosted web server will just be for my own personal use, but that I want to be available on the web. If/when it is setup I'll then look at trying to get CloudFlare in place. https://redd.it/nhtsy6 @r_SelfHosted

Looking for Photo software I support some people at my job that have a tremendously large photo library. Currently one uses Aperture (now discontinued) and the other uses Photos. They are both heavy Mac users. The issue is they require their library to accessible all the time/every time yet they travel to exotic locales that do not have reliable network connections. So Google Photos and Amazon Photos don’t fly. I looked into Photostructure and demoed it myself. Didn’t check all the boxes. Are there any photo suites that allow recursive syncing. Not sure if I am explaining it properly, but the idea that the user can take photos load them up locally where there is no internet. Then when they get back home it syncs back to an app. Also unique library’s like aperture is useful. Thank you https://redd.it/ni7yi6 @r_SelfHosted

Database errors while trying to set up nextcloud Hello I have tried to install nextcloud on my Ubuntu 20.04 server (non-snap) but while I try to create the admin user I get
while trying to create admin user: Failed to connect to the database: An exception occurred in the driver: SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied For user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
I have created both user and the database, granted user all privleges and flushed said privileges I should add despite my server being on the local network, I access it via cloudflare CDN (for now cause im too lazy to set up a reverse proxy ATM). So I suspect that the @localhost may be the problem but im not so sure. https://redd.it/nhuczv @r_SelfHosted

Feedburner RSS-email alternative? That part of Feedburner is ending in July Recently Google's Feedburner became the latest casualty in Google's garbage collecting of the various offered services. The only part of Feedburner I use is the RSS-to-email service. I'm looking at alternatives and have seen only two that have a free tier - follow.it and feedio. What I'm curious about is a sensible self-hosted option. For example, I think PHPList includes RSS-to-email and has an open source self hosted option. Ideas? https://redd.it/ni5b5j @r_SelfHosted

TP link deco m5 Hello, I have a TP link deco m5 hooked up to my router (its a modem and router in one) and want to set up port forwarding for my Minecraft server but should I set it up on the router or on the tp link? https://redd.it/ni2wol @r_SelfHosted

Getting to that confluence So like many of you I use confluence for my personal and work wiki. I am trying new wikis but I can't seem to find one I like. I have tried doku, wiki.js and xWiki(currently testing) but I am still not happy and I hope someone has other options.. I have some needed extension... like encrypting text in a page, before asked I already have bitwarden but after a corruption I don't like like have all my passwords there. I also like to add powershell/ bash scripts to my wiki, I used code block to do this in confluence And lastly pictures I need pictures within the pages as well for help with users etc... Or if I export for work reasons... Would anyone know of any other wikis which would do above at all? And ideally self hosted... Thanks all :) https://redd.it/ni0tar @r_SelfHosted

Photoprism Inex vs Import with FTP server Whenever I take a photo, it is uploaded via FTP to a folder. This folder has a good 2GB of photos so far. Ideally, I would like the photo to show up in Photoprism within a couple of minutes of the photo being uploaded. Here are my concerns: \- Originally I figured that I should set it to be an import folder, however, if Photoprism moves the picture from that folder, my phone will think the file is missing and will upload it again. This cycle would repeat forever. \- If I set it to copy the pictures instead of moving them, my library will take twice the amount of space \- If I set the folder to be indexed, from what I understand files will not show up until I index the folder. Am I missing a workaround of some sort? https://redd.it/nhvghv @r_SelfHosted

App for tracking network of people and organizations for advocacy group I am working with a advocacy group, and we have a need to track in very broad terms who is who and who is working for whom on which project and which projects are supported by whom (person or organizations) It seems like a job for a CRM system, but main issue we encounter is that a CRM does not separate the position (or office) that supports a project from the people who work there, Projects may well be ongoing for years even if people move on, and of course some people may support a project while other do not. Project are also carried by multiple organizations, which is not well supported in a CRM. So i am looking for a app that lets the group share knowledge about a organizations (companies or government agencies), organizations structures and positions within organizations people projects (drafts, interests, development goals) the ability to link people to positions and organizations link people / organizations to support / rejection of projects the ability to add actions to people and projects Does anyone know a solution that we could adopt for our needs? https://redd.it/nhwo9d @r_SelfHosted
