Gemini as the Google Assistant is a disaster Gemini as the Google Assistant is a disaster. I have spent hours trying to make Gemini work as the Google Assistant for simple things. Couple of examples: Gemini was getting my location wrong for weather forecast (was eventually resolved for my home location but would still be questionable if traveling); Wouldn't unlock the lock screen to respond to simple queries like "Hey Google, what's the weather" and "Hey Google, good morning". Switched back to Google Assistant and everything resumed working correctly. https://redd.it/1x12i6d @reddit_android

I built Kids Learning World, an Android learning game for kids focused on ABC, Numbers & Words Hi r/Android! 👋 I'm an Android developer, and I'd like to share a project I've recently published: Kids Learning World. I built it as a simple educational game for young children, with the idea of making early learning feel more like exploration than a traditional quiz. # 🔤 ABC World The ABC section includes activities such as: Uppercase and lowercase letter recognition Matching letters Missing letters Letter sequences Beginning and ending letters Connecting letters with familiar objects and words # 🔢 Numbers World The Numbers section focuses on early number skills: Number recognition Counting Before and after Greater and smaller numbers Missing numbers Simple addition and subtraction Basic number sequences # 📚 Words World The Words section uses familiar objects and pictures to introduce vocabulary: Picture identification Beginning letters Ending letters Missing letters Completing simple words # 🐼 One thing I wanted to do differently I didn't want a wrong answer to feel like a failure. If a child chooses the wrong answer, they can simply try again. Once they get it right, the game shows a small learning card explaining the answer. For example: Question: Which letter does APPLE start with? Answer: A Learning: “APPLE starts with the letter A. The first letter of APPLE is A.” The idea is that the question should not just test the child — the question itself should become a learning opportunity. # 🎮 The overall approach I designed the experience around: Play → Learn → Understand → Practice → Celebrate There are no leaderboards or competitive mechanics. The focus is on simple learning activities, positive feedback and allowing children to practice at their own pace. # 📱 Android details The app is currently available on Google Play: Kids Learning World Package: com.hussain.englishkidsworld https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hussain.englishkidsworld I'd really appreciate feedback from Android developers, parents, teachers, or anyone interested in children's educational apps. In particular, I'm interested in: What would you improve in an Android learning app for young children? Are there any learning activities you think would fit well as a future world? https://redd.it/1x0mczs @reddit_android

Don't you think Material 3 Expressive looks dated? The era of FLAT began over 10 years ago and it's dead now. We're in the era of gradients and blur. I really don't like these pastel colors at all, I also despise the lack of true dark mode and the decision to discard black backgrounds when all high end phones and even midrange phones have AMOLED displays. I really like ONE UI by Samsung, it is beautiful in my opinion but then I have to open Google apps and they feel completely OLD. The only exceptions are Gemini which looks great and also YouTube music, which btw they both have black backgrounds, gradients, blurs. So, Google. WHY? https://redd.it/1ws92id @reddit_android
