09 “The Dream Cloud”, c1915, possibly Russian. Carved boulder opal. A personification of The Dream, close to Beaux Arts traditional style with hints of late Art Nouveau. 17 Its deeply saddening to see The Crow remake trailer released.. The original masterpiece is directed by an Australian, it really is a classic, a kind of miracle of a film that came out of great tragedy.. The original doesnt just “hold-up”, its vastly superior to 99% of films made today .. A profound document ..
The whole ”end of culture” thing is real, at best we have managerialism at the top of everything, including the creative arts.. At worst we have deliberate destruction of culture.
If anyone wants to watch a really great film with uncompromising tactile aesthetic - go watch The Crow (1994) .. It literally shits on anything made today in the worthless CGI era. It killed its lead actor, probably destroyed the life of its director .. But its legacy as a work of art remains legendary and untouchable.
