The Reward For Fasting Abuu Rayhaanah 'Abdul-Hakeem Al-Amreekee 3rd Ramadhaan 1442 - 15/4/2021

The Battle of Badr took place on the 17th of Ramadan, two years after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) migrated to Madinah. Muslims were outnumbered by a ratio of 1:3. The Muslim army numbered around 313, and the Quraysh had over 950 well-equipped on their side.ย  5,000 angels helped the Muslims achieve victory over the Quraysh who were better equipped. The Conquest of Makkah, according to many scholars, took place in 8th Year of Hijri, during the month ofย Ramadan. Wallaahu A'lam (and Allaah knows best).

So we advise ourselves and our muslim brothers to prepare for this month, welcome it with a good welcome and not to allow anyone or anything to preoccupy them from the goodness that this blessed month entails. Especially as they have (recently) encountered great difficulties that Allah (ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽู‡ู ูˆูŽ ุชูŽุนูŽุงู„ู‰) decreed upon them. Their masฤjid have now been (re-)opened and goodness has returned to them so it is upon them to devote their attention to making the most of this opportunity, to utilise the days and the nights in the obedience of Allah (ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽู‡ู ูˆูŽ ุชูŽุนูŽุงู„ู‰) ______________________________________ [1] Narrated by Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) in AlBukhari (6). The exact wording: [ูƒูŽุงู†ูŽ ุฑูŽุณููˆู„ู ุงู„ู„ู‘ูŽู‡ู ๏ทบ ุฃูŽุฌู’ูˆูŽุฏูŽ ุงู„ู†ู‘ูŽุงุณูุŒ ูˆูŽูƒูŽุงู†ูŽ ุฃูŽุฌู’ูˆูŽุฏู ู…ูŽุง ูŠูŽูƒููˆู†ู ูููŠ ุฑูŽู…ูŽุถูŽุงู†ูŽ] The Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ was the most generous of people and he was most generous in Ramadan. [2] Narrated by Abu Hurriera (may Allah be pleased with him) in AlBukhari (2363) and Muslim (2244) [3] Narrated by Abu Hurriera (may Allah be pleased with him) in AlBukhaari (37) and Muslim (759) [4] Narrated by Abu Thaar (may Allah be pleased with him) in At-Tirmithi (806). Were The Salaf eager to assemble early (in the masjid) in order to witness the last hour of Jum'ah with an eagerness to supplicate? __________________________________ Translated by: Abu Sufyฤn Sฤmi ibn Daniel Al-Ghฤni โœ’Arabic Transcript ๐Ÿ•ช Audio

The mindset, preparation and practices of The Salaf during Ramadan โ—พ Our Shaykh Abu Bilaal Al-Hadhramy- may Allah preserve him- was asked the following question on 30th Sha'baan 1441( 23rd April 2020): ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ”นQuestion: The Questioner says: How did The Salaf used to prepare for the month of Ramadan? ๐Ÿ“ฉ๐Ÿ”ธAnswer: First of all, they would be overjoyed by its arrival and rejoice at it. (ูก. Supplication) They would spend six months asking Allah (ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽู‡ู ูˆูŽ ุชูŽุนูŽุงู„ู‰) to allow them to reach Ramadan and if they fasted Ramadan; they would spend (the next) six months asking Allah to accept it from them. It has indeed been reported that Yahya ibn Abee Kathir - may Allah have mercy upon him - used to say: "ุงู„ู„ู‡ู… ุณู„ู‘ูู…ู†ุง ู„ุฑู…ุถุงู† ูˆุณู„ู‘ูู… ุฑู…ุถุงู† ู„ู†ุง" "Oh Allah; deliver us to Ramadan and deliver Ramadan to us." It is a month of sweet scented blessings, a month of forgiveness of sins and a month of goodness - all of it. (2. Recitation of The Qurโ€™ฤn) So there is no doubt that it is a bringer of joy and The Salaf were certainly overjoyed with it. From their overjoyment, they would recite the book of Allah more in it than outside of it. In fact; it was mentioned regarding Sufyฤn At-Thawree - may Allah have mercy upon him - that when Ramadan entered he would leave all actions and devote his (complete) attention to The Qurโ€™ฤn. Similarly, it was also reported that Imam Malik - may Allah have mercy upon him - despite his deep love for narrating hadith and hadith in general; once Ramadan had entered he devoted his (complete) attention to The Qurโ€™ฤn and stopped narrating hadith, this was his preparation. (3. Sitting in the masjid) Whatsmore, they would sit in the masฤjid more, so as not to tarnish their fasting, for indeed there is no doubt that sitting in the masjid whilst fasting helps with fasting itself, leaving idle talk, sexual activity and anything else that may endanger the completeness of the fast. (4. Spending in charity) Also amongst their preparation and actions during Ramadan; the great amount they would spend in charity during this month, following the example of the Prophet ๏ทบ. The Prophet ๏ทบ was the most generous of people and he was most generous during Ramadan. [1] It has indeed been reported that Hamฤd Ibn Abee Sulaimฤn - may Allah have mercy upon him - during Ramadan used to provide iftฤr for five hundred muslims - this is something tremendous; hoping for the reward and return of Allah (ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽู‡ู ูˆูŽ ุชูŽุนูŽุงู„ู‰) by providing iftฤr for the fasting person. This is from the actions of the Salaf; concern for providing iftฤr for the fasting people and within it is great reward. [" ูููŠ ูƒูู„ู‘ู ูƒูŽุจูุฏู ุฑูŽุทู’ุจูŽุฉู ุฃูŽุฌู’ุฑูŒ ".] In (the good treatment of) every moist liver (i.e. living being) is a reward. So this is some of what The Salaf used to do in preparation for Ramadan as well as their actions in this blessed month. As for the state of many of the people; it is contrary to this - except whom Allah (ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽู‡ู ูˆูŽ ุชูŽุนูŽุงู„ู‰) has had mercy upon. So you find their preparation for Ramadan a shallow preparation; a preparation of food and drink. And you find in them weakness in the aspect of standing (in prayer), worship and recitation (of the Qurโ€™ฤn) in Ramadan. As for our Salaf; they prepared for it with obedience, worship and whatever else aided them upon fulfilling what Allah (ุณูุจู’ุญูŽุงู†ูŽู‡ู ูˆูŽ ุชูŽุนูŽุงู„ู‰) intended to be fulfilled within this blessed month. (5. The Night Prayer) The Prophet ๏ทบ said: [ู… Whoever stands (in prayer) in Ramadan out of faith and seeking the reward; he will be forgiven for his past sins. [3] Likewise, he also said: If a man prays with the Imam until he departs; (the reward of) standing the entire night (in prayer) is written for him. [4]

When evening approached he would send a girl from his household to the roof [to look out], and when the sun set he would make the call to prayer (athaan). He would eat with us, and when he had finished, the call for the commencement of prayer {iqaamah) would be given, and he would pray, and we would pray with him.โ€ [Ibn Abee Shaybah, Al-Musannaf, Pg. 429] Join the telegram channel: t.me/FruitsOfKnowledge

"Know that in the month of Ramadhaan there are two jihaads of the self which take place for the believer: jihaad of the daytime with fasting, and jihaad of the night time with standing for prayer. So whoever gathers between these two jihaads, fulfills their rights, and is patient with them, then he is given his reward without limit." [Lataaif Al-Ma'aarif, (1/171)]

Abuu Haroon Muhammad Taweel Part 11

Abลซ Umฤma said he heard Allah's Messenger ๏ทบ say, โ€œRecite the Qurโ€™ฤn, for on the day of resurrection it will come as an intercessor for those who recite it. Recite the two shining ones (Az-Zahrawayn), Al-Baqara and Sลซrah ฤ€l Imrฤn, for on the day of resurrection they will come as two clouds or two shades, or two flocks of birds in ranks pleading for those who recite them..." [Sahih Muslim]

The evidence for the answer will be posted tonight inshaallaah.

What 2 Surahs are called Az-Zahrawayn (ุงู„ุฒู‡ุฑุงูˆูŠู† - The shining ones)?
