Hello SSM! The MOE Junior Sports Academy Selection trials will be happening on 6 and 13 April 2024 and it will be a mass testing event of approximately 6000 children from all over Singapore. As this would require massive manpower, we are looking for at least 80 people on top of the manpower from the MOE Schools. Morning SSM Friends!! IDHealth, an initiative by Happee Hearts Movement (HHM), provides holistic and accessible healthcare to persons with intellectual disability (PWID) and their caregivers. Our multidisciplinary team addresses patients’ health conditions through medical and non-medical interventions. We work closely with healthcare and cross-sector partners to meet the needs of our patients. The aim is for patients to live healthy lives with dignity. This project consists of 2 components: (1) Diet and Exercise Workshop for PWID around 13th April 2024, (2) 8-week Individualized Exercise Coaching Programme around 23rd May 2024. The workshop will employ appropriate communication strategies to teach PWID about healthy eating and exercise. At the workshop, caregivers will be invited to register their care recipients for the individualized exercise coaching sessions. Patients and caregivers will then be matched with volunteers who will visit them at home twice a week for 8 weeks to teach and coach them in a series of exercises. Exercises are designed to be performed at home and in community spaces within the PWID’s neighbourhood. Volunteers will be supported by HHM staff through regular in-person supervision sessions and phone calls. Expectations of the volunteer: (1) Take instructions from the physiotherapist or one of the other IDHealth staff. The first 3 volunteer sessions will be done under the supervision of a IDHealth team member. Subsequently, IDHealth staff will attend the session with you every 2 weeks so that we can progress the exercises. (2) Provide a report via a text message or phone call after each session. We will provide a template as to what to look out for and report on. We will also provide criteria as to when you should discontinue the session. (3) Inform us at least a day before the session if you are unable to make it. Commitment: At least once, at most twice a week for 8 weeks. After office hours and weekends can be accommodated if that works best. More details and Registration Form can be found here
