Psychiatry PostDoc position

The Ranek Lab has a postdoctoral position available for a motivated and creative scientist with an interest in cardiac physiology and molecular biology. Our research is focused on elucidating the mechanistic underpinnings of cardiac proteinopathies and testing novel therapeutic strategies to treat cardiac disease. We are searching for candidates proficient in cell culture, mouse models, and human biopsies; thus spanning the translational spectrum from bench to bedside. We have funding from the NIH, AHA, private foundations, and pharmaceutical companies. Ideally this person is familiar with common molecular biology techniques such as western blotting, qPCR, immunohistochemistry, and proteomics. Knowledge of cardiac physiology and pathology is desired but not essential. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV/NIH biosketch to mranek1@jh.edu .

Jie Cheng, Ph.D. at The Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to work on basic science and translational research projects focusing on retinal neurodegeneration and neuroprotection. Approaches include stem cell-based disease modeling, single-cell RNA-seq, and high-throughput screening of small molecule libraries using cell-based assays. Technical methods will include stem cell culture, molecular biology including ‘omics technology, immunostaining, and biochemical assays for mitochondrial function. Postdoctoral fellowship position is available within Mass General Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Mass General comprises the largest hospital-based academic research program in the US. The goal of the Jan Lab is to conduct science with the potential to directly enhance the safety, efficacy, and accessibility of anti-cancer cell therapies. To this end, the Jan Lab uses targeted protein degradation to develop novel concepts in synthetic biology and immune cell engineering. Recent studies include the creation of clinically suitable lenalidomide-inducible dimerization and degradation systems, and with them lenalidomide ON- and OFF-switch CAR T cells (Science Translational Medicine (2021): 13.575 and Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology (2021): 1-17). Topics of major interest include ubiquitin-dependent control of immune cell function, synthetic biology creation by reprogramming protein degradation, and the engineering of novel cellular immunotherapies. Partnership with the laboratory of Dr. Marcela Maus and the MGH Cellular Immunotherapy Program enable a direct path to translate advances to the care of patients at MGH. The Jan Lab is a part of the MGH Center for Cancer Research and Department of Pathology. The Yale Autism Program is accepting applications for the Hilibrand Postdoctoral Fellowship. The fellowship facilitates the development of field-leading scientists motivated to conduct research relevant to autism in adolescents and adults. The program accepts one scholar a year for a two-year fellowship at the Yale Child Study Center. We seek research-oriented candidates from diverse scientific backgrounds with a doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or MD). The selected fellow will be directly mentored by Dr. James McPartland and senior faculty at the Yale Child Study Center and will be involved in a highly active community of clinicians and researchers devoted to understanding the psychological and developmental needs of adolescents and adults with autism and their families. The fellow will gain exposure to research, teaching, and clinical activities within the Yale Developmental Disabilities Clinic, the Yale Autism Program, the McPartland Lab, and the Yale Child Study Center. By providing mentorship, resources, and a fertile scientific environment, the Hilibrand Fellowship enables trainees to initiate innovative lines of inquiry that they can then carry forward as independent investigators leading their own research programs. A Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Associate position in biostatistics and biomedical informatics is available at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The positions involve developing and applying statistical and computational methods for analysis of electronic health records ( EHR ) data including narrative data extracted via natural language processing, codified phenotype data as well as large scale genomic measurements. We seek an individual with strong statistical and computing backgrounds and who has expertise in statistical and machine learning methods for big data. The work will involve development and application of statistical and informatics methods and algorithm for analyzing EHR data. Fully funded postdoctoral position in fMRI guided TMS in Ottawa, Canada 🇨🇦 Drs. Lauri Tuominen and Sara Tremblay at the Institute of Mental Health Research in Ottawa are looking for a postdoctoral fellow.  The candidate should have strong skills in resting state fMRI to be able to develop and implement an fMRI protocol for targeting TMS in the treatment of major depressive disorder. The Institute of Mental Health Research in Ottawa hosts a Siemens mMR Biograph PET/MRI scanner, state-of-the-art TMS equipment, and excellent computing resources. We are seeking an outstanding individual to be a Post-doctoral fellow in the Center for Translation Cognitive Neuroscience (CTCN) (http://sites.bu.edu/ctcnlab/) at Boston University School of Medicine and VA Boston Healthcare system. Based at VA Boston, the CTCN lab focuses on applying the techniques of cognitive neuroscience to increase our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Two-year commitment required. The specific project which funds the position seeks to test a pragmatic introduction of ERPs into the existing workflow of participants and patients in the Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and affiliated memory disorders clinics with the hypotheses that ERPs will provide (1) additive diagnostic information beyond that of neuropsychological testing alone and (2) data on how brain physiology is altered by neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic brain injuries. Dr. Raymond Chung's Laboratory in the Liver Center in the GI Division, Department of Medicine at MGH and Harvard Medical School has an opening for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to study liver biology and immunology, pathogenesis and therapeutic targets of liver inflammation and fibrosis, resulting from chronic hepatitis B virus infection (CHB). Particularly, the Chung lab is interested in studying how innate immune cells and the cytokines produced by these cells affect liver injury, inflammation, regeneration, and cancer. Projects involve exploring the transcriptome and proteome of human liver cells at the single cell level obtained from liver fine needle aspiration and from liver biopsies and testing generated hypothesis in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo. Knowledge gained through these studies will provide insights into the pathogenesis of liver diseases beyond CHB, including nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and reveal possible therapeutic targets. This Postdoctoral Research Fellow position offers the opportunity to work directly with a team of Principal Investigators and co-Investigators in the Liver Center at MGH. The position is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. Citizens. The qualified candidates should have good oral and written communication skills. A Postdoctoral Position in the Chitnis lab/Translational Neuroimmunology Research Center, within the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases, is available in the Department of Neurology at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. We are looking for one (1) post-doctoral fellow to join our group and work on single nucleus RNAseq/ATAC-seq, bulk transcriptomic, epigenetics, proteomics, and whole genome sequencing. A postdoctoral research fellowship is available in the Levy Lab within in the Precision Vaccine Program (PVP), Division of Infectious Diseases at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Prof. Ofer Levy is the Program Director. The position will focus on the human immunity project described below and will be co-mentored by Dr. Levy and Dr. Guzman Sanchez-Schmitz, expert in tissue engineering and Instructor at Harvard Medical School . Our overarching goals are to unravel the molecular mechanisms underlying distinct immune responses of vulnerable human populations (e.g., the young, elderly or immunocompromised) and apply discoveries to vaccine development. Our approach combines age- and species-specific in vitro modeling of human immunity with a focus on functional, biochemical and systems immunology readouts in relevant in vitro and in vivo model systems. Specifically, we are looking for candidates in a human in vitro modeling. Human in vitro modeling: The postdoc will lead projects related to developing and employing human microphysiologic three-dimensional in vitro tissue construct systems to characterize age-(newborns/elders) immunity (see Sanchez-Schmitz, G et al Front Immunol 2018: https://doi.org/10.3389/fimmu.2018.02634). Focus will include in vitro modeling of both innate and adaptive immunity and modeling cell mediated immunity in vitro and ex vivo. Systems biology approaches are employed for hypothesis generation and testing, such as transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics. This position is funded by a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant and multiple NIH grants. Qualifications:· A doctoral degree (PhD and/or MD) is required (or soon to be completed), together with a strong track record of productivity, as evidenced by first-authored publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.· The ideal candidate(s) will have a track record of applying innovative experimental strategies to tackle important biologic problems, together with the communication and interpersonal skills required to make a positive contribution to a thriving intellectual environment.· Experience in maintaining good collaborative external and internal communications a bonus, with a focus on team science and some willingness to contribute to project management.· Experience in human in vitro modeling, such as Dendritic Cell, T cell evaluation a plus, but not required.· Prior experience in studying distinct human populations that vary by age, sex, underlying disease or other demographic features is a plus.
