Meanwhile, check these links out! https://www.personalfinanceclub.com/how-to-perfectly-time-the-market/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/grsblog/29562781417/in/dateposted-public/ This shows that the American stock market not only recovers but also continues to reach new highs each time. There are many tailwinds for the S&P 500 and NASDAQ: 1) Companies must meet strict requirements before being included in the index. 2) Governments around the world are printing money, and the wealthy are allocating their funds into the stock market. 3) We live in a world that upholds the principles of capitalism, where listed companies have strong incentives to report higher growth in revenue and sales. Consequently, their share prices rise. 4) Politicians and government officials often use the economy and stock market as quick measures of the success of their policies. It is not in their interest to see a crash in the stock market.

Is anyone curious to receive an excel file where it will show you the potential returns you'll get from dollar cost averaging into S&P 500 / NASDAQ from 2014? Give this post an emoji reaction! Once this post reaches 80 emojis, I will release it!

"In my view, for most people, the best thing to do is own the S&P 500 index fund," Buffett had once said. "The trick is not to pick the right company. The trick is to essentially buy all the big companies through the S&P 500 and to do it consistently and to do it in a very, very low-cost way," he further added. — Billionaire Warren Buffett

Anyway, another fun fact. SingPost is more of a logistics company than a mail company today. Post & Parcel contributed 30% of revenue but it contributed 9% of operating profit. This implies a margin of 1.5%. With digitalisation, the volume of letters are declining rapidly. There is no way to reverse this trend. Key thing is... invest in sunrise industries and get out of sunset industries.

A friend of mine asked me to look at Sarine Technologies. It's a company involved in providing technological products and services to the diamond industry. One thing I realized is the diamond industry is ripe for disruption. Many consumers are warming up to the idea of lab-grown diamonds. They're cheaper with better color/clarity/cut. You can be a big player in a declining industry, you're still declining. Look at the revenue growth and share price performance of Sarine Technologies, the story is very clear. A question for readers, are you comfortable with natural lab diamonds? 🥰 = No ❤️ = Yes

When Snowflake reported its quarter as a listed company, its product revenue was $148.5 million. Many years later, in its recent quarter (Q1 2025), its product revenue was $789.6 million. Despite that, its share price fell from $240 to $133.92. A 44.2% decline. At the end of the day, valuation matters. Today, Snow is trading at a more reasonable EV/Sales of 11.4x based on Public Comps. sources: https://publiccomps.com/tickers?items=High+Growth+SaaS https://investors.snowflake.com/news/news-details/2024/Snowflake-Reports-Financial-Results-for-the-First-Quarter-of-Fiscal-2025/default.aspx

The trend of shares outstanding is akin to a large pizza. In the past, it was divided among 20 people. However, presently, it is being shared among fewer and fewer individuals. Isn't that good?

Average price paid $178 - $191 range. This could be the price range where Apple would unleash its massive $110b repurchase programme. In a way, it *could* be a floor. Take note, $110b against its current market cap is 4%. It's big. Having said that, you still need to do your homework on Apple's valuations, etc.

Firstly, Apple's share buyback is massive relative to the value of shares it issued to its own employees. Means, net effect is a reduction of shares. Over time, earnings per share would rise, meaning it has a net positive effect on share price.

Shedding some light behind Apple's massive 6% pre-market pop. Results ain't fantastic but investors love the higher cash dividend declared and $110b of authorized repurchase program. 1) Revenue down 4.3% 2) Operating Income down -1.5% 3) Diluted shares outstanding -2.4% source: https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2024/05/apple-reports-second-quarter-results/ https://www.apple.com/newsroom/pdfs/fy2024-q2/FY24_Q2_Consolidated_Financial_Statements.pdf

8 Pointers from Berkshire Hathaway’s Annual Letter 1. To evaluate Berkshire Hathaway’s true earnings, do not look at net income. Focus on operating income. Net income is a figure that is influenced heavily by the day to day swings of Berkshire’s massive equity portfolio. 2. Things do not change. Berkshire continues to look for businesses that enjoy good economics that are fundamental and enduring… those that can deploy additional capital at high returns in the future. The holding period for these? Forever. 3. Due to Berkshire’s size, outside of the U.S. and for capital deployment purposes, there are essential no candidates that could move the needle or produce eye-popping performance 4. Humans are not any more stable emotionally despite going through scary periods. Speed of communication and wonders of technology facilitate instant paralysis and panic. It’s Berkshire’s ability to respond immediately to market seizures that may offer occasional large-scale opportunity. 5. It’s all about making a couple of good decisions during a life time and avoid serious mistakes. 6. Berkshire can handle any financial disasters and its cash could even be an asset to America. It’s managed with extreme fiscal conservatism. 7. Buffett is keeping Coke, AMEX, Occidental Petroleum, and interests in five very large Japanese companies (Itochu, Marubeni, Mitsubishi, Mitsui and Sumitomo). 8. The new 4th edition of Poor Charlie’s Almanack will be released soon! https://www.berkshirehathaway.com/2023ar/2023ar.pdf
