EMCD Digest | June 8–14, 2026
♦️ Bitcoin mining difficulty dropped 10.09%
On June 14, Bitcoin mining difficulty adjusted down from 138.96T to 124.93T. Likely drivers included weaker BTC price action, a gradual shift of some mining capacity toward AI and HPC workloads, and seasonal curtailments in Texas, where miners often reduce operations during periods of peak electricity demand.
♦️ BitFuFu increased BTC production in May
Public Bitcoin mining company and cloud mining provider BitFuFu produced 177 BTC in May, up 22.1% from April. The company also reported a sharp increase in self-mining production, which increased to 90 BTC during the month.
♦️ Canaan expanded crypto reserves to a record high
ASIC manufacturer and mining operator Canaan reported mining 90 BTC in May and received an additional 24 BTC through customer operations. At month-end, total holdings reached 1,867 BTC and 3,952 ETH, marking a new treasury high.
♦️ Bitcoin moves closer to mortgage adoption
A couple in Michigan used BTC as collateral to purchase their first home through a Better and Coinbase mortgage product. No BTC was sold or used as payment. Instead, BTC served as collateral for the down payment loan, while the mortgage remained within the traditional Fannie Mae-backed system.

♦️ Bitcoin mining difficulty increased
On May 29, Bitcoin mining difficulty rose by 1.72% to 138.96T, reaching its highest level since early April.
♦️ An idle power plant in Bolivia began mining Bitcoin
Alps Blockchain and Qurubiqa started mining Bitcoin at a 127MW gas-fired thermal power plant in Bolivia’s Cochabamba department.
♦️ Bitcoin miner stocks rallied on AI infrastructure demand
Shares of several mining-related companies rose as investors focused on miners with energy access and data-center capacity.
♦️ IREN signed a $1.6B Dell deal
IREN agreed to buy Nvidia Blackwell systems from Dell, expanding its data-center infrastructure.
♦️ TeraWulf announced a large data-center project in Kentucky
The company plans to build a hyperscale data campus that could eventually require more than 1 GW of power.
♦️ Strategy sold part of its BTC

AmericanFortress says they don’t have to be 🌝
The company has proposed a post‑quantum protection system designed to secure existing Bitcoin wallets — including nearly 5M BTC in dormant addresses — without requiring users to move their funds.
The long-term concern is straightforward: future quantum computers could eventually break today’s cryptography, exposing private keys through already public blockchain data.
Older wallets are considered especially vulnerable, particularly pre-seed phrase wallets from Bitcoin’s early years.
AmericanFortress proposes a protocol upgrade that would allow the network to:
✔️ remain compatible with existing wallets
✔️ verify ownership without exposing private keys
✔️ add protection for vulnerable coins
The company also claims the system avoids the usual compromise between stronger quantum security and slower network performance.
If successful, the same framework could later be adapted for other major chains, including Ethereum, Solana, and Tron.
