Speaking is as different to writing as walking is to dancing. While we walk on a daily basis, we dance far less often; while some enjoy dancing, others ovoid it as much as possible. Like dancing, writing is connected to style. [Pauline Cullen] #quotes @CDIELTS

This isn't the video of the final, but I really liked it. My family and I admired her and hope our children can become champions like her. #patriot @CDIELTS

Wood will soon be the main source of heating on Eigg.

Eigg’s carbon emissions are now much lower than before.

Electricity was available for the first time on Eigg when a new grid was switched on.
Anonymous voting

Prior to the installation of the new electricity grid and renewable energy generation, most households on Eigg used-diesel generators to supply electricity, resulting in significant carbon emissions. Homes were also poorly insulated and had old, inefficient oil-burning boilers, or used coal for heating. The work by the Eigg Heritage Trust to reduce energy use has resulted in significant reductions in carbon emissions from the island’s households and businesses. The average annual electricity use per household is just 2,160 kilowatt hours (kWh), compared to a UK average in 2008 of 4,198 kWh. Domestic carbon emissions have fallen by 47 percent, from 8.4 to 4.45 tonnes per year. This compares to average UK household emissions of 5.5 to 6 tonnes per year. The emissions should fall even further over the next few years as the supply of wood for heating increases. #passage @CDIELTS

Few people recognise nowadays that human beings are designed to function best in daylight.
Anonymous voting

If humans were truly at home under the light of the moon and stars, it would make no difference to us whether we were out and about at night or during the day, the midnight world as visible to us as it is to the vast number of nocturnal species on this planet. Instead, we are diurnal creatures, meaning our eyes are adapted to living in the sun's light. This is a basic evolutionary fact, even though most of us don’t think of ourselves as diurnal beings any more than as primates or mammals or Earthlings. Yet it’s the only way to explain what we’ve done to the night: we’ve engineered it to meet our needs by filling it with light. #passage @CDIELTS

David Lemi wants shellfish collection to be restricted to areas of the ocean.

What can be done about low numbers of shellfish? According to David Lemi, too much attention has been on the quantity of shellfish harvested. Instead, he says, we should be challenging harvesting that destroys their habitat. #passage @CDIELTS

The two maps illustrate the layout of Paradise island in the past and at present. Overall, changes made to the island highlights a shift from a research-focused area to a tourist-friendly destination, achieved at the expense of damaging the environment. In the past, the island was a relatively undeveloped area with a focus on scientific research. The western part of the island featured a beach with a pier and a boat docked nearby. Adjacent to the beach was a Scientific Research Station, which seemed to be the main structure on the island. The central and eastern parts of the island were characterised by natural features, including a grove of trees and a natural spring. The north-eastern corner of the island consisted of a rocky area. Currently, the island has experienced significant development which enhanced its appeal as a tourist destination. The beach remains but it has been upgraded so that people can swim safely. The pier has also been extended to accommodate a cruise ship, indicating an increase in visitor capacity. The former Scientific Research Station has been replaced by a hotel complex with its own swimming pool. In the centre of the island, trees have been chopped down to make way for an open restaurant and a BBQ area, offering dining options for tourists. Additionally, a cycle path has encircled the whole island. In the east, a café has been built near the natural spring. Finally, a scenic lookout has been established on the rocky area of the island 250 words #Task1 #maps @CDIELTS
