You can't have gas pressure without a container. This applies to earth as well as any other scenario. Written by friend of the channel Victorian Watchman In a container, the pressure applied to the walls of the container by the gas is equally distributed. The only reason there would be differential pressures in earth's atmosphere is because any atmospheric pressure differential is caused by the fact that different gases with different densities are a part of the pressure system. When applying laws of buoyancy and density, everything is explained and gravity makes no sense with regard to Earth's atmosphere. Please note, the overall pressure against the container will always be the same no matter how many different gases are in the container, because the pressure is 'contained' by walls. However the density of the different gases will determine what their location is inside the container, relative to the surrounding gases inside the container. So when we in earth say that Earths atmospheric pressure reduces at higher and higher altitudes it's only because its relative pressure, measured against another pressure or against a total absence of pressure, changes. Therefore there will also be relative pressure differentials inside the container, but it is only relative because it is pressure of one type of gas molecules against another type of gas molecules. The idea of pressure itself is relative in one sense because the pressure of the gases exerted upon the container are arbitrarily dictated by certain formulas to try and find a concise system of measurement. However what is not arbitrary or relative is the fact that an equal outwards force is being applied to a container. From wiki: "Most gauges measure pressure relative to atmospheric pressure as the zero point, so this form of reading is simply referred to as "gauge pressure". However, anything greater than total vacuum is technically a form of pressure. For very low pressures, a gauge that uses total vacuum as the zero point reference must be used, giving pressure reading as an absolute pressure." So, once inside a pressure system, (which we humans are) when we use a gauge to determine atmospheric pressure, we measure that pressure against another form of pressure or against an absolute vacuum, by using a device that measures the force applied by one contained atmosphere against another contained atmosphere (in the pressure gauge or against the relative atmospheric pressure outside of wherever the gauge is located) or a container in which an absolute (or as close to absolute as possible) vacuum exists. So, any, and I mean fucking ANY, pressure requires a container in order to be measured. There is no form of gas pressure that exists whereby a container does not also hold the pressure. In short, when we talk of pressure in regards to gasses, a container will necessarily exist. Ergo, earth is a closed system with impenetrable walls. We cannot escape the sky.
