[She who emerges in the Manipura cakra]
(śrīlalitāsahasranāmā, mantra 101)
Devi travels from the Manipuraka to the Anahata Chakra. In the Anahata Chakra, the rest of the sixty-four ceremonial rituals are performed to please and entertain Devi. The path becomes extremely constricted just before the Anahata is reached. This is called granthi.
When Devi passes on from Anahatam to Visuddhi, the path constricts once more, just before the Visuddhi Chakra is reached. These two granthis are together called the Vishnu Granthi. It is the Lord Vishnu who protects and maintains the stability of this Universe. Vishnu performs the act of maintenance and sustenance of all creation. The world exists because it is protected by Lord Vishnu. Devi breaks through the Vishnu granthi and moves upwards.
The 102nd mantra praises Devi as She who breaks through the Vishnu granthi. The seeker who transcends the Vishnu granthi is cleansed of his desire for Existence. Devi showers Her grace upon Him to accomplish this freedom from the desire for existence.
The 103rd mantra of the Sri Lalitha Sahasranama praises Devi as She who resides at the centre of the Ajna Chakra. The 104th mantra praises Devi as She who breaks through the Rudra granthi. Ajna Chakra is the area between the eyebrows, where a two-petalled lotus blossoms. Kundalini Sakthi continues Her upward journey from the Manipuraka Chakra. Then She breaks through the Vishnu Granthi. She reaches the Visudhi Chakra and from there races up and reaches the Ajna Chakra.
The path constricts above the Vissudhi and Ajna chakras. This constriction is called Rudra Granthi. Kundalini Sakthi breaks through the Granthi and enters the Ajna Chakra. The Ajna (mind) Chakra is a two-petalled Lotus. The Rudra Granthi, which is the abode of Siva, is situated in the Visuddhi and Ajna Chakras. Destruction is the role of the Rudra Granthi. The seeker would have gained some knowledge of the Self by the time the Kundalini reaches the Rudra Granthi. He will have glimpsed the Self. The seeker will now display the signs of a Jnani (a man of knowledge), and his commands will be unquestioningly obeyed by all. It is said that indescribable siddhis manifest as various chambers of the mind open up by themselves.
A seeker who has attained glimpses of the Self reaches the Ajna Chakra and takes on the mantle of the Guru. Sri Vidya is a mantra upasana (that which can be gained by the intense, disciplined, devoted worship of the mantra). The worshippers of Sri Vidya meditated upon the chakras.
The bijakshar hrim is interposed between each part of the mantra. The worshippers of Srividya also break the Brahma, Vishnu and Rudra Granthis when they chant the mantra for long periods of time, obeying the code of rituals. The commentators interpret each granthi to be equivalent to the syllable hrim, which is placed at the end of each of the three parts of the Srividya.

| 4 | The first hundred names in the Sri Lalitha Sahasranama are now over. The introductory part is considered to be the first kala (one of the twelve parts of the sun). The thousand names have been divided into ten kalas. This is how Bhaskararaya has divided the names in his commentary on the Lalitha Sahasranama, named the Soubhagya Bhaskaram. Each kala has been given a different name of the Sun.
The Thapini Kala contains the first hundred names. Devi passes through the Muladharam and Swadhisthanam and breaks through the Brahmagranthi, the Kundalini Sakthi continues Her strong upward flow. The Sakthi appears in the Manipuraka Chakra situated in the navel. The seeker adorns Devi with diamond jewellery as She reaches the Manipuraka Chakra. “Mani” in Sanskrit has the meaning of gems. Devi is seated in the Manipuraka Chakra and bedecked with gem-studded jewellery. We have heard that there are sixty-four ceremonies by which we propitiate Devi.
The first forty-seven ceremonial rituals from Padyam (washing of the feet) to Bhasuram (bedecking Her with gem-studded jewellery) are performed in the Manipuraka Chakra by the seeker. Because the seeker decorates Her with jewellery of different kinds of precious gems, Devi is described in mantra 101 as She who rises radiantly from the midst of precious, scintillating gems. | 11 |

| 10 | Grantham is said to be that which condenses or constricts onto a capsule form, the meaning of greatest significance. When Kundalini Sakthi travels upwards, the path becomes constricted in two places. Muladharam and Swadhistanam are together called the Agnikundam or disc of fire.
When the primal energy moves upwards, its path is constricted; it meets with a knot or constriction in two places. The constriction acts as a catapult for the energy to move up at a stronger and faster pace. Because of the greater momentum that it gives to the Kundalini Sakthi, these constrictions are called Granthis. These granthis are situated both above and below the Swadhishtanam. The principal abode of Devi is the Muladharam. From there, She awakens and penetrates the Brahmaganthi. Brahmagranthi is said to be the seat of Brahma, the creator. The name Brahmagranthi is thus symbolic of the creative instinct. The seeker who transcends this Granthi through the power of his Sadhana and the grace of Devi is said to be free of the cycle of creation.
With this mantra, we have come to the end of the first hundred mantras of the Lalitha Sahasranama. This is called the ThapiniKala by Bhaskararaya; the Sun is said to have twelve parts of Kalas. Each Kala is said to correspond to a portion of the Lalitha Sahasranama. The first hundred names correspond to the second kala known as Tapinikala. The first Kala is linked to the introductory dialogue between Agasthya and Hayagriva. According to Bhaskaraya, each of the remaining kalas corresponds to a hundred names in the Stotra. Each kala is given a different name of the Sun.
Thapini Kala, which contains the first hundred names, is now over. We are hearing the descriptions of the mantras of the Kundalini Sakthi. Within this section, we are hearing the mantras dealing with the Kundalini Sakthi breaking through each Granthi. We heard that Devi is praised as She whose principal or chief abode is the Muladharam. She who breaks through the Brahmagranthi.
Let us move on to the mantra which details Devi breaking through the Vishnu Granathi. This is explained in the 101 and 102 mantras. After She passes through the Muladharam and Swadhisthanam and breaks through the Brahmagranthi, the Kundalini Sakthi continues Her strong upward flow. The Sakthi reaches the Manipuraka Chakra, situated in the navel. The Manipura is the ten-petalled lotus. The Manipura is associated with the element of water. The seeker adorns Devi with diamond jewellery as She reaches the Manipuraka Chakra. Mani in Sanskrit has the meaning of germs.

| 11 | The 100th mantra in the Sri Lalitha Sahasranama praises Devi as She who breaks through the knot of Brahma.

We have heard in detail the descriptions of Kaula Margam and Samayacharam. We heard the description of the six adhar chakras in the mantra Muladharanilaya.
The six adhar chakras are present in the Sushumna nadi, placed one above the other, corresponding to specific areas of the body. We will not be able to spot the adhar chakras if we are surgically opened up. They cannot be seen as part of our physical anatomy. The adhar chakras are revealed to Yogis, and their wondrous power is experienced only through Yogic practices.
Devi is praised as ‘She who protects the code of rituals of the path of Yoga known as Kula.’ She will reveal the secret of the Chakras only to pure-minded seekers.
- The Muladharam (land) is called the base or root chakra, in the region between the anus.
- The Swadhishtana (fire) Chakra is placed above the Muladhara chakra at the level of the genitals.
- The Manipura (water) is at the navel level.
- At the heart level is Anahata (air) Chakra.
- Visuddhi (space) Chakra is at the level of the throat.
- The Ajna (mind) Chakra is situated in between the eyebrows.
- The Sahasradala Padma is situated at the top of the head. It is called either Chakra or Padma (lotus).
- Muladhara and Swadhishtana together form the Disc of Fire (Agnikandam).
- Manipuraka and Anahata together form the Disc of the Sun (Suryakandam).
- Vishuddhi and Ajna together form the Disc of the Moon (Somakandam).
- The Brahmagranthi is situated just above the Agnikanda, which consists of the Muladhara and Swadhishtana.
- The two Chakras, Manipurka and Anahata, are together said to represent the radiant Vishnugranthi. | 47 |

By Amma’s grace and under the loving guidance and blessings of Swami Ramakrishnananda Puri, a Free Medical Camp and Bhagavathi Seva were organised at Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Nagercoil, on Sunday, 6 September 2026, as part of the celebrations of Amma, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s 73rd Birthday.
The Free Medical Camp, held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, was jointly conducted by Ramachandra Hospital, Nagercoil, under the leadership of Dr. Madhavan, and Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi, under the leadership of Dr. C. Sreekumar. Doctors from multiple specialties offered free consultations and medical guidance, with a telemedicine facility also provided. Hundreds of people from the local community benefited from the camp and its facilities.

| 17 |  +3Amma’s Initiatives | They Are People Too - The Musahars of Ratanpur, Bihar
It was an action of deep compassion. A village health worker with Amma’s initiatives crossed all lines of caste and stigma to save a pregnant woman’s life.
The woman had developed complications, and Urmila Devi convinced her to go to a hospital rather than deliver at home, as is the tradition. This saved the new mother’s life.
For centuries, the Musahar community has lived in the depth of unspeakable poverty and prejudice. By some sectors of society, they are considered sub-human.
The weight of this cruelty has even stolen the self-confidence of the Musahars themselves.
When Amma launched the Amrita Self-Reliant Village (SeRVe) project in 2013, she immediately adopted the Musahar village of Ratanpur, Bihar.
