⭕️India’s First Suicide Prevention Policy👇
✅️ Rolling out of India’s first suicide prevention policy, is a big development for the country, as it reports the highest number of suicide deaths in the world
✅️Taking a serious note of the development, India has come up with time-bound plans and multi-sectoral collaborations in recent times to achieve reduction in suicide by 10% by 2030 under this new initiative.
✅️ To achieve this target, the National Suicide Prevention Strategy broadly seeks to establish effective surveillance mechanisms for suicide prevention.
✅️ It also suggests establishing psychiatric outpatient departments, providing suicide prevention services through the District Mental Health Programme in next five years. The new plan also envisages integrating a mental well-being curriculum in all educational institutions within next 8 years, besides charting out certain guidelines for responsible media coverage of suicide cases and restricting access to means of suicide.
