O Allāh, in this sacred month of Muḥarram, just as You saved Mūsā عليه السلام and his people from oppression and tyranny, save our oppressed brothers and sisters wherever they may be.
Ya Rabb, You are the Protector of the weak, the Helper of the broken, and the Answerer of the desperate. Grant relief, strength, and victory to the oppressed in Palestine, Sudan, Yemen, and every land where injustice prevails.
O Allāh, allow us to reflect upon the lessons of Muḥarram: the courage of Mūsā عليه السلام in standing for truth, and the steadfastness of al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī رضي الله عنه, who stood firmly upon justice and principle despite immense hardship.
Fill our hearts with sincerity, patience, and conviction. Do not let us remain silent in the face of oppression, nor waver when truth is challenged. Make us among those who support justice, aid the needy, and strive for Your pleasure alone.
O Allāh, forgive our sins, accept our deeds, unite the hearts of the Muslims, and grant us a good end upon the Sunnah.

Today marks the 1st of Muḥarram, which means it is the beginning of the new Islamic year.
The start of the Islamic calendar was set by ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه, who based the first year when the Prophet ﷺ migrated (made Hijrah) from Makkah to Madīnah.
It is now 1448 years since the Prophet ﷺ's migration to Madīnah, however the date of the Hijrah is not linked with the 1st of Muḥarram.
Al-Muḥarram [ٱلْمُحَرَّم] means forbidden, it is one of the months when fighting is forbidden.
Narrated Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet ﷺ said,
“The most excellent fast after Ramaḍān is Allāh's month, al-Muḥarram, and the most excellent prayer after what is prescribed is prayer during the night.”

A teacher who was stabbed while protecting students during a knife attack at a secondary school in Manchester has been named.
Maysum Abdullah, 27, has been called a “hero” after he intervened in the attack at Co-op Academy Manchester on Plant Hill Road in Blackley on Tuesday.
Maysum who is now recovering at home said he was still ‘trying to process’ the incident.
His wife Saima said: “My husband entered teaching to make a positive difference in young people's lives and he is truly a hero for protecting and safeguarding those children.
“Our prayers are with the other two pupils who also suffered injuries and to all the students and staff who witnessed such a traumatic event.”
A 14-year-old girl has been charged with three counts of attempted murder following the incident and is due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London on Friday.

O Allāh, send Your peace and blessings upon Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ.
O Allāh, You are Ar-Razzāq and Al-Wahhāb. Grant us abundant, lawful, and blessed provision, place barakah in our earnings, and make us independent through what You have made halal.
O Allāh, bless us with righteous spouses who will be the coolness of our eyes, a source of tranquillity, faith, and happiness, and help us draw closer to You. Bless our marriages, our families, and our homes with love, mercy, and barakah.
O Allāh, You are Al-Fattāḥ and Al-Laṭīf. Relieve us of our burdens, ease our worries, remove our hardships, and make every difficulty easy for us.
O Allāh, You are Al-Ghafūr, At-Tawwāb, and Al-ʿAfūw. Forgive our sins, accept our repentance, and purify our hearts.
O Allāh, accept our prayers, fasting, charity, and all our acts of worship. Make them sincere for Your sake alone and among the deeds that weigh heavily on our scales on the Day of Judgment.
O Allāh, accept the duʿāʾs of our parents for us, reward them abundantly for all they have done, forgive them, have mercy upon them, and raise their ranks in this life and the Hereafter.
Indeed, You are As-Samīʿ, Al-Mujīb, and Al-Qadīr.

It was narrated by Tamīm al-Dārī رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“The first thing for which a person will be brought to account on the Day of Resurrection will be his prayer. If it is complete, then the voluntary (prayers) will also be recorded for him (as an increase).
If it is not complete then Allāh will say to His angels: ‘Look and see whether you find any voluntary prayers for My slave, and take them to make up what is lacking from his obligatory prayers.’ Then all his deeds will be reckoned in like manner.”
