I have to apologize again for posting things here that I thought I posted to my private notes channel. I've just deleted an astonishing take by the Atlantic from a few days ago where the author seems willing to sacrifice due process to get Trump (which inadvertently may highlight actual abuses, in time, I hope) I also deleted some things I was catching up on as far as the decades-long dumpster fire that is SNL. One was an article about discord many seem to have had with Lorne Michaels- this one from Harry Shearer (Simpsons) noting a weirdly anti-Semitic exchange they had, and the other was an article about an interview where Lorne said "I won’t want the show ever to be bad " as he spoke about possibly retiring from SNL in 2024. Where's this guy been??😂 I literally laughed out loud when I read that— unless he traveled back in time and made that comment from the 80s, Lorne is SO out of touch with reality it's pretty darn scary. Anyway, I'm sorry for posting accidentally here (again) and I'll be taking some precautions to avoid that mistake again. 🙏 Sorry! 😊

During an interview with CBS News on Monday (20 December), Michaels discussed retiring from his role at SNL in 2024, after the show’s 50th anniversary. He said: “I think I’m committed to doing this show until its 50th anniversary, which is in three years. I’d like to see that through, and I have a feeling that’d be a really good time to leave.” However, Michaels added he would do “everything I can” to ensure the show goes on after his exit. “Here’s the point: I won’t want the show ever to be bad. I care too deeply about it. It’s been my life’s work,” Michaels said, adding, “So, I’m gonna do everything I can to see it carry on and carry on well.” https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/lorne-michaels-says-2024-would-be-a-good-time-for-him-to-quit-snl-b1979876.html

SNL boss Lorne Michaels says 2024 would be ‘really good time’ for him to quit show

Michaels has received a 93 Emmy nominations for his work – more than any other individual so far

“I grew to quite loathe the producer of the show,” he says, referring to SNL’s powerful showrunner Lorne Michaels. He recalls his first encounter with Michaels after being hired, with the pair meeting in the audience of a theatre. “The first words he said to me were, ‘I never hired a male Jew for the show before,’” Shearer recalls. “And knowing that he was Jewish gave it an extra tang.” https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/simpsons-harry-shearer-spinal-tap-064003386.html

The Simpsons’ Harry Shearer on the Spinal Tap sequel and ‘loathing’ SNL boss Lorne Michaels: ‘He’s an expert at manipulating people’

Either way, Trump’s tactics show the weakness of a judicial system that can be manipulated by the maliciously inclined. Due process is the crown jewel of the rule of law; it embodies the idea that every person is entitled to a day in court and to be heard following a set standard protocol to ensure fairness. We would not want it any other way. But a day in court takes time. Delays are an inevitable part of the system’s commitment to the rule of law—they are both justified in some absolute sense and utterly predictable. But by indulging Trump’s abuse of the process, the justice system allows Trump to make his prosecution a key factor in the election, in the expectation that his status as a victim will help him to victory. This is a dangerous moment, when the best result is that the judicial system can only partially mitigate Trump’s manipulation of it, and it may not manage even that. One can only hope that the Supreme Court recognizes the gravity of the moment and treats the Special Counsel’s request with the care it deserves. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/12/due-process-donald-trump-trial-jack-smith-supreme-court/676319/
