Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Abandoning desires for the sake of Allāh will rescue the servant from the punishment of Allāh and will guarantee one to obtain His mercy. The precious qualities of Allāh, the treasure of piety, pleasure, longing for Him, joy and the happiness found in being close to Him will never happen to the heart that cares for anyone or anything besides Allāh - even if he was among the people of worship, piety, and knowledge.” [al-Fawā’id]

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said: “A protection from the Shaytān is restraining the glance, avoiding excessive speech and food, and not mixing with the people excessively. “I loved Allāh to the point where any affliction that befell me was made light. He pleased me with every trial. So because of my love for Him I don’t (really) care in which state I enter upon the morning or evening (i.e., I am and will be content).” ——— [‘Āmir ibn Qays (رحمه الله) | The Heavenly Dispute by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbalī رحمه الله | pg. 148]
