While police around the country are raiding campuses and brutalizing student protesters, the authorities are once again trotting out narratives about "outside agitators." They do this whenever a movement gets out of their control. It is one of the most basic tactics in their playbook; they employ it indiscriminately. As we wrote in 2014 during the demonstrations in Ferguson in response to the murder of Michael Brown, "Rhetoric about 'outside agitators' is a military operation intended to isolate and target an enemy: divide and conquer. The enemy that the authorities are aiming at is predominantly black and brown, but it is not just a specific social body; it is also an aspect of our humanity, a part of all of us. The ultimate goal of the police is not so much to brutalize and pacify specific individuals as it is to extract rebelliousness itself from the social fabric. El 27 de abril de 1937 la vida del periodista, filósofo, teórico marxista y militante comunista sardo Antonio Gramsci se apagaba. Perseguido, detenido y encarcelado por el régimen fascista de Mussolini. Le dejaron enfermar y sufrir las pésimas condiciones de su reclusión sin prácticamente atención médica, hasta que dio su último suspiro a los 46 años de edad. Durante el juicio, en 1928, el fiscal dijo que era necesario impedir que durante 20 años ese cerebro pudiera seguir trabajando. No lo consiguieron. Durante los casi 10 años que los fascistas le tuvieron encerrado, el cerebro de Gramsci floreció esquivando la censura, las enfermedades y el aislamiento, dejando a la humanidad su colosal legado en forma de 33 volúmenes y 3.000 páginas de historia, filosofía, economía y estrategia revolucionaria: los Quaderni del Carcere. 🔗 @outsidersesp
