...Saudi menganut bentuk Islam yang sangat reduktif, yang dikembangkan pada abad kedelapan belas oleh pembaru Arab Muhammad ibn Abd AlWahhab (1703-1792). Ibn Abd Al Wahhab menyerukan untuk kembali ke Islam murni dari Nabi dan menolak perkembangan terkemudian seperti Syi‘ah, tasawuf, falsafah, dan yurisprudensi (fiqh) yang menjadi andalan semua ulama Muslim lainnya. Dia sangat tertekan melihat pemujaan kepada orang suci dan makam-makam mereka, yang dikutuknya sebagai penyembahan berhala. Meski begitu, Wahhabisme tidak secara inheren keras; memang, Ibn Abd Al Wahhab menolak menyetujui perang yang dilakukan pelindungnya, Ibn Saud dari Najd, karena dia hanya berjuang untuk kekayaan dan kejayaan. Baru setelah kemunduran dirinya, pengikut Wahhabi menjadi lebih agresif, bahkan sampai menghancurkan makam Imam Husain di Karbala pada 1802 serta monumen-monumen yang terkait dengan Nabi Muhammad dan para sahabatnya di Arab Saudi. Pada saat ini juga, sekte ini bersikeras bahwa umat Islam yang tidak menerima doktrin-doktrin mereka adalah kafir. Pada awal abad kesembilan belas, Wahhabi memasukkan tulisan-tulisan Ibnu Taimiyah ke dalam kanon mereka dan takfir, praktik mengafirkan Muslim yang lain, yang pernah ditolak Ibn Abd Al Wahhab sendiri, menjadi ajaran penting mereka.
Embargo minyak yang diberlakukan oleh negara-negara Teluk selama Perang Oktober 1973 telah melonjakkan harga minyak dan Kerajaan itu sekarang memiliki semua petrodolar yang dibutuhkannya untuk menemukan cara-cara praktis memaksakan Wahhabisme ke seluruh ummah.

Israel advances water-for-energy deal with Jordan, UAE
A tripartite agreement is expected to be signed at the COP28 conference in Dubai in November.

The Times of Israel reported that political and commercial agreements will have to be signed after the agreement is sealed.
In June, Israeli Energy Minister Israel Katz discussed the projects with the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs John Kerry.
He presented a plan to build a 600MW capacity solar plant with storage in Jordan, and for Israel to export 200 million cubic metres of desalinated water per year to its neighbour, the energy ministry said at the time.
