Difference Between Flash Memory and EEPROM: 👉 Flash is just one type of EEPROM. 👉 Flash uses NAND-type memory, while EEPROM uses NOR type. 👉 Flash is block-wise erasable, while EEPROM is byte-wise erasable. 👉 Flash is constantly rewritten, while other EEPROMs are seldom rewritten. 👉 Flash is used when large amounts are needed, while EEPROM is used when only small amounts are needed.

You can also invoke this tool after each project build/rebuild by specifying its invocation in the µVision dialog Options for Target - User - After Build/Rebuild. If many parameters are needed, it is easier to use a command file.

You can invoke srec_cat.exe from a Windows command prompt or Make tool: srec_cat.exe HexFile1.hex -Intel HexFile2.hex -Intel -o MergedHexFile.hex -Intel

You have to use the free srec_cat.exe utility which is available as Windows EXE file from https://sourceforge.net/projects/srecord/files/srecord-win32. It is part of the SRecord project hosted on sourceforge.net. With this utility, you can load multiple HEX files, cut out specific address areas, move them to a new address and merge everything to one HEX file.

Merging hex file is used when you want to combine two applications into one. For example, if an application has a motor control part and a wireless part and it's been outsourced to two different companies depending on their specialisation. At the end you will have two hex files and you have to merge them to fulfill your requirement.
