After its IPO in March, Reddit published its first quarterly results as a publicly traded company yesterday. Apart from costs connected to its stock exchange listing leading to a substantial net loss, the social media platform delivered a solid performance across the board, especially compared to the same period the year prior. The company increased revenue by 48 percent to $243 million and daily active users by 37 percent to 83 million, while average revenue per user rose to $2.9 from $2.7 between January and March 2023. Regarding the location of regular Reddit users, countries with English as their main language stand out the most. According to Statista's Consumer Insights, 16 percent of Australian and Canadian respondents claim to use the website or corresponding app regularly. The United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Ireland also make the list of countries with the highest share of regular Reddit users among 38 countries surveyed. Apart from these countries, the social media platform is popular in India, with 13 percent of survey participants saying they regularly scroll through the discussions on the site. The three remaining spots are taken up by the Northern European countries Finland, Norway and Denmark, where more than a tenth of the social media populace identifies as frequent Reddit users. #reddit #infographic #statista #data #empoweringpeoplewithdata βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž– Statista by ASM Channels

The world's two most populous nations, China and India, have the highest numbers of students studying overseas. According to data published by UNESCO, more than one million Chinese students were studying abroad in 2021. India’s total was close to half of this, with around 508,000 students living in other countries. Following some way behind come Vietnam, Germany and Uzbekistan. The United States was the largest destination country for students studying abroad with over 833,000 there in 2021. It was followed by the United Kingdom (nearly 601,000), Australia (around 378,000), Germany (over 376,000) and Canada (nearly 318,000). This data was published as part of the International Organization for Migration's (IOM) 2024 World Migration Report, which provides an overview of the global state of migration using the latest available data, published Tuesday. This ranges from data on asylum seekers fleeing war to economic migrants seeking labor opportunities, and as this chart shows, to students living abroad. According to the report, the total number of internationally mobile students has been on the rise over the last two decades. UNESCO data reveals that where 2.2 million students were studying abroad in 2001, that figure had climbed to 6.39 million students in 2021. #studyingabroad #study #students #data #infographic #statista #empoweringpeoplewithdata βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž– Statista by ASM Channels

India received by far the highest international remittances of any country worldwide in 2022, according to World Bank data published in the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) 2024 World Migration Report on Tuesday. International remittances are defined as money sent from workers living abroad to their home countries. It is also the first country ever to have passed the $100 billion mark for inbound remittances. India was trailed some way behind by Mexico ($61.1 billion), which had toppled China ($51 billion) from the second position in 2021. The majority of the inflows for France and Germany, which appear in rank 5 and 10, respectively, are not household transfers but β€œrelate to salaries of cross-border workers who work in Switzerland while residing in France or Germany”, according to the report. In terms of the top sources of international remittances, the United States ($79.15 billion in 2022), Saudi Arabia ($39.35 billion), Switzerland ($31.91 billion), Germany ($25.60 billion) and China ($18.26 billion) are the biggest senders. The UAE’s data was not published this year by the World Bank but would usually also appear in the top 10 list. #india #remittances #statista #infographic #empoweringpeoplewithdata βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž– Statista by ASM Channels

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Paris on Sunday, kicking off a three-country visit to Europe, his first in five years. On the first leg of his tour, the Chinese leader met with French President Emanuel Macron and Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, to discuss the war in Ukraine, China’s relationship with Putin's Russia and trade policy. China's subsidies for domestic EV makers were also high on the agenda, as the European Commission is currently investigating whether these subsidies give Chinese carmakers an unfair advantage over their European competitors in the fast-growing market for electric cars. The European Union is a major export partner of China and its importance to the world’s largest exporter is only growing as tensions between the U.S. and China have resulted in a significant drop in U.S. imports from the world’s manufacturing hub. Exports play a pivotal role in fueling China's economic growth, serving as a cornerstone of its development strategy. Since its accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001, China has experienced a remarkable surge in export activity. Driven by its huge manufacturing sector and vast labor force, Chinese exports of goods have grown more than tenfold over the past two decades, climbing from less than $300 billion in 2001 to almost $3.4 trillion last year. #china #exports #statista #infographic #empoweringpeoplewithdata βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž– Statista by ASM Channels

The global average of melanoma skin cancer cases was 3.4 per 100,000 population in 2020, while for deaths it was 0.6 per 100,000 population. Ahead of @apple's latest earnings report, the company found itself in an unfamiliar situation. While shareholders, investors and analysts usually expect nothing but the best from arguably the most successful company of the past decade, expectations were very low this time around. Throughout the past quarter, there had been countless reports of lackluster iPhone sales, difficulties in China and more, resulting in Apple's share price slumping along with the sentiment surrounding the company. The beauty of low expectations is that they're easily surpassed, though, which is exactly what Apple did. By delivering results that weren't quite as bad as expected and announcing a huge $110 billion stock buyback, the company pleased investors, sending its share price up 7 percent in pre-market trading on Friday. #apple #statista #infographic #empoweringpeoplewithdata βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž– Statista by ASM Channels

Amazon and Walmart are the biggest online fashion retailers in the United States, according to website ECDB. Both retailers sell all sorts of goods online and in brick-and-mortar stores and according to the data, $12.3 billion and $8.9 billion worth of apparel net sales was among that in 2023. After these two established U.S. brands, there is a relative newcomer in rank 3 of the biggest online fashion retailers in the country: Chinese company Shein. Pedelling often-criticized fast fashion at rock-bottom prices, the store specialized in trendy fashion products and offering new items almost continuously. With this popular strategy, Shein, which only launched in the U.S. around 2017, has pulled past U.S. legacy retailer Macy's as well as Nike, which came in rank 4 and 5. The companies had 2023 fashion net sales of $6.4 billion and $4.5 billion, respectively. #shein #retailers #statista #infographic #empoweringpeoplewithdata βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž–βž– Statista by ASM Channels
