Global Update * Former President Trump said he will announce his nominee for Federal Reserve chair “next week,” reiterating his expectation that the next central bank leader will move to lower interest rates. * The White House and Senate Democrats reached a provisional deal to avert a U.S. government shutdown. * President Trump threatened tariffs on countries exporting oil to Cuba and warned Iran of possible military action unless it agrees to a nuclear deal, driving oil prices higher. * U.S. initial jobless claims edged down by 1,000 to 209,000, compared with an upwardly revised figure from the prior week, but remained above the market consensus of 205,000. * Eurozone industrial confidence rose to its highest level since May 2023, while euro area consumer confidence climbed to near a one-year high.
