Instead of just waiting and worrying, here are steps you can take:Best online courses
Be Strategic with School Selection: Your five choices are your most important asset. It is never compulsory to select your girst choice from Cateogty A. Again, schools are placed in the various categories based on their academic and non academic facilities and not their performance. This means top schools can be found in cateogry B schools as well. But due to taste and preference, many who do not quality for placement into their first and second choices would be disappointed.
Prepare for Self-Placement: Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Have a backup list of at least three acceptable schools and programs from the potential self-placement pool so you can act immediately if needed.
Document Everything: Take clear screenshots of your submitted school choices and any error reports you have filed with the CSSPS. This creates a personal record that can be invaluable if you need to challenge a placement decision.

As the September 17th release date for the 2025 BECE placements approaches, hundreds of thousands of families are holding their breath. While we hope for a smooth process, history shows that parents and candidates should be prepared for several potential challenges that arise each year with the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal.
This guide breaks down the most common issues and offers actionable advice on how to prepare and respond effectively.
Key Challenge 1: The Public vs. Private School Quota Dilemma
A significant point of contention has been the allocation of spots in top-tier Category A and B schools. While a previous 30% quota for public school candidates has been adjusted, a bias still exists that can feel unfair to high-performing private school students.
How it Works: The system can give preference to a public school candidate over a private school candidate with a better aggregate score for placement in the most competitive schools.
The “Kofi vs. Samuel” Scenario: Imagine Kofi (a private school candidate) scores an aggregate of 9, while Samuel (a public school candidate) scores a 10. If both select PRESEC a Category A school as their first choice, the quota system could place Samuel ahead of Kofi, despite Kofi’s better performance. This remains a significant source of frustration for many families.
Key Challenge 2: Missing All Choices & The Self-Placement Scramble
One of the most stressful outcomes for any family is a candidate not being placed in any of their five chosen schools. This triggers the self-placement process, a frantic race against time.
Intense Pressure: Missing all choices creates enormous tension and pressure on parents to secure a school for their child.
The Best Schools Go First: The self-placement module operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Families who delay even by a few hours may find that the most desirable remaining schools and programs are already full.
The Risk of Dropping Out: This situation can lead to parents rejecting the available schools, opting for private SHS, or in the worst cases, qualified students not enrolling at all. Every year, over 30,000 BECE graduates fall into this category.
Key Challenge 3: The Reality of Category A and B Placements
Many parents and students overestimate their chances of getting into the country’s most elite schools, leading to widespread disappointment.
Misconception: There is a common but incorrect belief that the first-choice school must be from Category A. This leads to nearly all candidates, including those with average scores, competing for a limited number of spots.
The Numbers Don’t Lie: With a limited capacity in Category A and B schools, it is a statistical certainty that over 100,000 students who select them as a first choice will not be placed there. Choosing schools based on prestige rather than a candidate’s actual academic strength is a primary cause of placement failure.
Key Challenge 4: Boarding School Hopes vs. Day School Reality
The government’s policy and infrastructure development favour the day school system.
Mandatory Day School Choices: Students are now required to select two day schools, increasing the probability of being placed in one.
Government Preference: The focus on building Community Day Schools and including private day schools in the Free SHS program signals a clear preference. Families set exclusively on a boarding school experience should prepare for the high likelihood of a day school placement.
Key Challenge 5: Uncorrected Data on the CSSPS Portal
Perhaps the most alarming issue is the potential for uncorrected errors in a candidate’s data. Since the portal opened for review, parents have reported numerous errors:
Wrong school choices.
Incorrect arrangement of school choices.
Wrong programs assigned to selected schools.
If these errors are not rectified before the placement algorithm is run, a student could be placed in a school or program they never intended to choose, causing significant distress.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has taken note of an indication that JoyNews TV is set to air an investigative documentary on examination malpractice during the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 7, the Service assured the public that it will obtain and thoroughly scrutinise the full documentary, including transcripts, to guide a comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
“The GES wishes to assure the public that a copy of the full documentary with the original transcripts will be obtained and scrutinised immediately, after which a full-scale investigation would be conducted into the allegations,” the statement, signed by the Head of Public Relations, Daniel Fenyi, read.
It emphasised its strong opposition to any form of examination malpractice, warning that cheating erodes the credibility of the country’s education system, destroys meritocracy, and produces graduates ill-equipped for national development.
The Service also disclosed that it has the full backing of the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, as well as the GES Council, to impose strict sanctions on any official, whether teaching or non-teaching, found complicit in aiding or abetting exam malpractice.
Offenders, if found guilty, will face severe disciplinary action in line with existing laws and Service regulations, it stressed.
GES further assured stakeholders of its commitment to preserving the integrity of Ghana’s examination system, pledging close collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), National Security, and law enforcement agencies to stamp out the menace.
The Service called on all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and students, to work collectively in safeguarding the sanctity of the country’s education system.

How to report 2025 wrong school choices, gender and DoB on the CSSPS Portal
It is very important to know what to do if you find wrong school choices, programmes, dates of birth, and genders on the 𝗖𝗦𝗦𝗣𝗦 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹 and what you cannot do.
In this publication, we will explain the following:
Whether you can change the school choices on the CSSPS portal or date of birth by yourself.
How to report Wrong School Choices, gender, and date of birth on the CSSPS Portal
What your JHS or headmaster can do to help.
Barely a few hours after the activation of the 𝗖𝗦𝗦𝗣𝗦 c𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 p𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗹 to enable parents and candidates to check and confirm their school choices, many have begun to have worrying issues.
One of the issues has to do with parents or candidates not being able to log onto the CSSPS portal. There are three things you can do to resolve this.
Check the index number to confirm it is correct. If that is correct, add 25 to the index number to help you check the school choices in your dashboard.
If that does not work, also check the date of birth very well. Do not enter a wrong date of birth.
However, if the date of birth is giving you challenges, contact the Junior High School you attended and request the final date of birth submitted to WAEC during the BECE registration.
It is possible an error was made. If that is the case, use the wrong date of birth provided by the school to check the choices.
What Can You Do If There Are Wrong School Choices or Dates of Birth on the CSSPS Portal?
Where the schools you choose have been changed or are not arranged on the portal the way you submitted it, there is little that can be done about this issue directly on the portal.
According to the GES, no student or parent can change any of the uploaded schools or date of birth of gendar directly on the dashboard. The programmes cannot be changed, nor can the accommodation type be changed either.
This was confirmed by a communication by the GES Public Relations Officer, Mr. Daniel Fenyi, which indicated that “It must be noted that 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱.”
However, the MoE has provided a chatbox through which you can report any issues you have after logging in.
He added that the technical team and the 24-hour team remain on standby to consistently take feedback and respond to them timely and appropriately.
On the portal, there is only the “CONFIRM CHOICES” button; hence, the wrong school choices on the CSSPS Portal cannot be corrected.
If you have issues with the details on the portal, DO NOT click on the “CONFIRM CHOICES” button. Keep reading for what you can do in such a case.
How to report Wrong School Choices on the CSSPS Portal to the Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education encourages stakeholders, particularly parents, teachers, guardians,ns and candidates to utilize the chat box feature on the portal of the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) to report any concerns, complaints, and other challenges related to the placement.
This is to enable us to promptly address the issues. The feedback we get from you will enhance the process for us to ultimately serve you better.
Below is the procedure for reporting any issue on the system:
1. Click on the chat box button
2. Enter name – (This is the name you used to write the exam or your ward used to write the exam
3. Enter number: Phone number you can be contacted on (Use parent’s phone number0
4. e-mail: Use parent email
5. Index number: This is your index number used in the examination
6. Exam year: The year you sat the BECE
7. Message: The problem you found on the portal and what you expect to be done about it.
8. Submit.
Thank you
