https://www.instagram.com/p/CxnEIMwM8hQ/ The Modi Government is weighing its options on a controversial and far-reaching step: introducing “sub-categorisation” among Scheduled Castes (SC). This entails fixing a separate quota for some castes within the SC category ostensibly to ensure that a few “influential SC communities” don’t corner most of the benefits, The Indian Express has learned. The immediate provocation for this, sources said, is the demand by the Madiga community in poll-bound Telangana. Of the nearly 17 per cent SC population in Telangana, Madigas account for nearly 50 per cent but they argue that most opportunities are cornered by another influential SC community Mala. So they have launched an agitation asking for a distinct quota for them. There are Mala-like examples in other states, too: the Paswans in Bihar or the Jatavs in UP. Sources said key Ministries are discussing the proposal. If the government decides to go ahead with the sub-categorisation of SCs in any state or across the country, it will need to amend Article 341 of the Constitution. Share your Views below!

https://www.instagram.com/p/CxhkYTAMpEU/ राज्यसभा में महिला आरक्षण बिल 2023: 27 साल के लंबे इंतजार के बाद वह ऐतिहासिक क्षण आ गया है। लोकसभा से पारित हो चुका महिला आरक्षण बिल गुरुवार को राज्यसभा से भी पार‍ित हो गया। इस संविधान संशोधन बिल पर गुरुवार को उच्‍च सदन में चर्चा हुई। सरकार ने लोकसभा में बिल पर चर्चा के दौरान कहा कि लोकसभा चुनाव के फौरन बाद जनगणना और परिसीमन की कार्रवाई होगी। लोकसभा और विधानसभाओं में महिलाओं को एक तिहाई आरक्षण से संबंधित कानून बहुत जल्द आकार लेगा। इससे पहले, लोकसभा में विपक्षी नेताओं ने आग्रह किया कि बिल के कानून बनने के साथ इसे जल्द लागू किया जाए, क्योंकि इसमें देरी भारत की महिलाओं के साथ घोर नाइंसाफी होगी। कई विपक्षी सांसदों ने कहा, जाति जनगणना करा कर इसमें SC, ST, OBC की महिलाओं के लिए आरक्षण की व्यवस्था की जाए।
