Samsung is trying to innovate again in a different way: Smartphones use’s PoP (Package on Package) stacking RAM directly on top of the processor. It saves space, but creates a problem: heat gets trapped, signals travel inefficiently, and performance drops under pressure. Now, Samsung is testing SBS (Side by Side), where RAM sits next to the processor instead of on top. That means shorter data paths, up to 40% more bandwidth, and far better heat dissipation. SBS is never used in smartphones. Samsung is trying to place RAM + SoC (SBS) in a compact space: - HPC style packaging into smartphones using Fan Out Wafer Level Packaging (FOWLP) If this succeeds, it could give Samsung an edge over Qualcomm and Apple.
