Dearly beloved GPC family, Jesus invites us with His words of grace: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30). Let us give thanks for God's abundant grace, that through the perfect and finished work of Christ we can rest in Him through faith for our salvation, instead of struggling in vain to attain it through human effort. As we look to rest physically from our work on Labour Day tomorrow, let us take time today to pray for those working in our neighbourhood and those working away from home, for our own work and the work of the church. Wherever relevant, you are encouraged for those you know by name. You can use the following points to pray: 1) Those working in our neighbourhoods "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."— Matthew 11:28 • Give thanks for those working in the neighbourhood of our church and have served us with their work (hawkers, store owners, retail staff, cleaners, teachers, etc.). Pray that Labour Day can also be a day of meaningful rest for them. • Pray for them to come to know Jesus, so that they will experience true rest and eternal life that is found in Him alone. Pray for opportunities to befriend them and have conversations pointing them to Christ. 2) Those working away from home (foreign workers in SG / GPC members working overseas) "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God."— Romans 15:7 • Pray that GPC will be a welcoming community of faith to those from overseas who enter into our midst, extending warm hospitality and loving support to them. • Pray that foreign workers in Singapore will find needed communities of support (communities of faith or otherwise). Pray that in their time here, those who have not heard the gospel will have an opportunity to hear, experience and receive the gospel of Christ through His people. • Pray that GPC members who are overseas for work/study may find communities of faith to grow together with, so that they continue to grow in their walk with God in the body of Christ. 3) For our own work "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men"— Colossians 3:23 • Pray that all our work / studies will be shaped by an attitude of joyful service unto the Lord. • Pray that we will not seek our own glory in our work / studies, but in all that we do to seek to glorify God. • Pray against any idolatry of work / studies to give us our identity/worth, but to rest fully in Christ for our identity and worth as children of God. • Pray that God will bless the work of our hands so that we may be God's channels of blessing unto others, that they may benefit from our work. 4) For the work of the church "Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain"— Psalm 127:1a • Pray that the whole church (pastors, leaders, members, worshippers) will seek the Lord in humility and dependence through prayer as we serve in various ministries, so that our work for the church may bear lasting fruit as we abide through prayer. • Pray that more will participate in the corporate prayer life of the church in its various forms (prayer broadcasts, church-wide online prayer meetings, prayer and fast). Pray for a renewal of hearts, so that participation will not be determined by convenience but by commitment. Thank you for lifting up our church in prayer today. Dearly beloved GPC family, as a community of the risen Christ, we continue to rejoice in the grace of new life that Christ has brought us into through His own resurrection. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead" (1 Peter 1:3). Let's come before our heavenly Father to humbly seek Him during our Prayer and Fasting Day this Friday 6pm to Saturday 6pm, lifting before Him the needs of the church (the prayer booklet can be accessed here: gpc.sg/prayerbooklet). In preparation for Friday, you can use the following points to pray for our church today: 1) The church's love for God and His word • Pray that we will live for God out of gratitude for the love He has first shown us and all He has graciously given to us in Christ. • Pray for God to put in our hearts a love for His word, and for the illumination of the Holy Spirit to understand it. • Pray for humility each time we listen to or read God's word, so that we can grow into the likeness of Christ through obedience to Him. 2) The church's unity • Pray that we will strive towards humility, gentleness, patience, learning to bear with one another in love in order to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. • Pray that we will not allow any conflicts or differences that arise to remain and cause division in the one body of Christ, but that we will commit to reconciliation with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. • Pray that we will all seek to use the various gifts which Christ has blessed us with to build up the whole body of Christ, in order that we may all grow in the unity of the faith and into the fullness of Christ our Head. 3) The church's witness • Pray that we will grow a burden for the lost, those who have yet to receive Christ. • Pray that we will be living testimonies to our family members, classmates, colleagues and friends, being ready to share the gospel as opportunities arise. • Pray for God to grant wisdom and opportunities for our church to effectively engage the neighbourhood (local outreach activities) and other nations (mission trips) to share the love of God. 4) The church's leaders (list of leaders can be found in the prayer booklet) • Give thanks for the faithful service and shepherding of our leaders. Pray for God's continued guidance towards His vision for the church. • Pray that our leaders will be clothed with humility, wisdom and compassion as they serve and minister to the needs of the congregation. • Pray for God's protection over them and their families, and strength and wisdom to manage other responsibilities well. Do you know that GPC has a Filipina Fellowship that meets every Sunday and an Indonesian Fellowship that meets every 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays, both at 9.30am? We give thanks for the beautiful diversity and richness these sisters bring into our church community, along with the distinct gifts and contributions they offer to the body of Christ. Today, we will be lifting up these sisters in the Indonesian and Filipina Fellowships in prayer. If you are unable to make the prayer meeting tonight, you can still be praying along using the following prayer points throughout the day: 1) Filipina Fellowship (FF) and Indonesian Fellowship (IF) members (you can use the acronym BLESS to pray) BODY: - Pray for good health and strength from the Lord, protection from accidents, healing from sickness, muscle pains, etc. LABOUR: - Pray for diligence and integrity in work, good relationships with employers, and good stewardship of finances. Pray for God’s guidance as they go about their work. EMOTIONS: - Pray for mental and emotional well-being. Pray for freedom from anxiety and feelings of loneliness, worry, or homesickness. - Pray for God’s presence to be felt in moments of loneliness or despair. - Pray against giving in to harmful or unhealthy influences or motivations just to overcome internal struggles. - Pray for strength and resilience especially for those struggling to learn a new language and adapting to unfamiliar environments. SOCIAL: - Pray for their families and children back in their home countries, for God’s comfort, protection and provision for their loved ones even as they are away. - Pray that they will be able to maintain good communication with family back home, find good friends here, and be a good testimony to others. - Pray that the fellowship gatherings and communities will be platforms for experiencing love and care for one another. Pray for a sense of belonging and community within the church. - Pray for the rest of the church congregation to warmly welcome and support the Indonesian and Filipina workers living and working among them. SPIRITUAL: - Pray for the salvation of those who have yet to know Christ, that they may desire to know Him. - Pray that the believers will continue to have a desire to grow in faith, hunger for His Word and apply it to their lives. - Pray for sensitivity to the Spirit’s leading in their lives. - Pray that those who face the challenge of being unable to attend fellowship meetings regularly will still be able to grow through the occasions they are able to attend. 2) The employers of FF and IF members - Pray that those who worship at GPC will set godly examples and live in a manner consistent with the Christian faith, so they may be a good testimony to our Filipino and Indonesian sisters. - Pray for employers to be encouraging and supportive of their domestic helpers, giving them the freedom and blessing to attend and participate in the fellowship. 3) The leadership teams of FF and IF (FF team: Dr. Chew Ing Hai, Sis. Dearly beloved GPC family, Christ is risen, He is risen indeed! As we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the grave, we remember that Christ's resurrection is the firstfruits, the sign and promise of the resurrection unto eternal life for all who belong to Him. In response to Sunday's sermon, we sang the hymn "Christ our hope in life and death". It was inspired by the Heidelberg Catechism, a confession of faith from the 16th century, which begins with these 2 questions: "What is your only comfort in life and in death?" "What must you know to live and die in the joy of this comfort?" Today, let's use the responses to these 2 questions to pray for the church family. "What is our only comfort in life and in death? That we are not our own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to our faithful Savior, Jesus Christ. Christ has fully paid for all our sins with His precious blood, and has set us free from the tyranny of the devil." • Praise God for sending Jesus, who lived a perfect life in order to die a sacrificial death for us and our salvation. • Pray that we will have a deep assurance that our lives and our deaths are held firmly in God's hands, from whom no one or thing can snatch us out of His hands nor separate from His love. • As we look forward to celebrate GPC's 145th anniversary, pray that we will individually and corporately as a church live only unto God and His glory, for it is unto Him we belong, bought by the precious blood of the Lamb. "He also watches over us in such a way that not a hair can fall from our heads without the will of our Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for our salvation." • Praise God for His sovereign care over us and the promise that He works all things for our good. Give thanks for the times He has preserved and provided. Give thanks for how He has grown GPC and its ministries. • Pray that we will not be anxious in the midst of trials and tribulations, but experience the intimate fellowship and surpassing peace of Christ as we recall the goodness and promises of God. Pray for those undergoing illness, grief, or hardship to experience these too. "Because we belong to Him, Christ, by His Holy Spirit, assures us of eternal life and makes us wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him." • Praise God for giving the Holy Spirit to abide and dwell in us, testifying to our hearts that we are children of the Heavenly Father and assuring us of the eternal inheritance we will finally receive. • Pray that we will fix our eyes on eternal and heavenly things and not only on the earthly things. Pray that we will seek to serve Christ instead of ourselves, and for this to show in the way we serve and love one another. Pray that we will abide in Christ daily through obedience, bearing the fruit of the Spirit and the light of Christ in our lives and communities. "What must we know to live and die in the joy of this comfort? Three things: first, how great our sins and misery are; second, how we are set free from all our sins and misery; third, how we are to thank God for such deliverance." • Praise God for His grace in revealing to us our soul's deadness in sin, opening our eyes to recognise Jesus as the Way, Truth and Life, and moving our hearts to respond in repentance and faith. • Pray that we will live daily in the joy of His salvation, renouncing sin and being faithful followers of Jesus Christ our Lord, Saviour and Head of the Church, sensitive and obedient to wherever and however He may lead in the seasons ahead. Pray that our lives may proclaim and demonstrate the truth of the gospel and reality of the risen Christ, that more will come to know Him. Christ is risen, He is risen indeed! Hallelujah! As the body of Christ in GPC, let us continue to build His missional community by following Christ together, showing hospitality together, and reaching out together, Amen! Greetings Missional Family, In the Christian tradition, the colour white reminds us of purity, forgiveness, and the resurrection, while the colour gold points us to the victory and kingship of Christ, the glorious triumph of heaven over sin and death. This Sunday, as we gather to celebrate the risen Christ, let us wear the story of the empty tomb — radiant with hope and new beginnings. As a simple expression of this shared hope, we invite you to come dressed in White & Gold this Resurrection Sunday. Come not merely as the colours we wear, but as a quiet testimony of the gospel we carry: FORGIVEN. RENEWED. VICTORIOUS. We look forward to worshipping together as one family. Dearly beloved GPC family, today is Maundy Thursday. Derived from the latin "mandatum" meaning mandate or commandment, it commemorates Jesus' giving of a new commandment to His disciples to love one another (John 13:34-35). On Maundy Thursday, Jesus also instituted the Lord's Supper, and washed His disciples' feet. As we remember Jesus' sacrifice for us and our sins on the cross on Good Friday, let us pray for ourselves as a church today, gratefully looking to the example of sacrificial love, humility and unity that Jesus Christ embodied and commanded us to follow on the night He was betrayed. Here are some ways you can pray: // For us to grow in Love "Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end... [Jesus speaking] A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” — John 13:1, 34-35 - Give thanks for Jesus' persevering love for us. He lived in perfect obedience to the Father in order to lay down His life for our sakes, so that we may be reconciled to the Father. - Pray that we would grow in mutual love for one another as a church, that our love would include words of encouragement and truth that build up, as well as other practical ways to show love to one another in action. - Pray that we may love one another in such a way as Jesus loved us, so that others will truly see the love of God in us and know we are Christ's disciples. // For us to grow in Humility "Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him" — John 13:3-5 - Give thanks that Jesus, though he was the Son of God, emptied himself by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Philippians 2:6-8). - Pray that God would reveal any areas of pride and selfish ambitions we harbour, and for a humility to confess and repent before Him (Philippians 2:3). - Pray for a glad willingness to serve one another and others in true humility after the example of Christ, counting them more significant than ourselves, and looking to their interests and not only our own (Philippians 2:3-4). // For us to grow in Unity "The Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” (1 Corinthians 11:23-25) - Give thanks that through Jesus' body broken for us, He has now united us to God and to one another in the one body of Christ. - Now that Jesus has joined His church as one body, pray that we will strive to exercise humility, gentleness, patience and love, in order to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:2-3). - Pray that we will embrace and celebrate diversity in the body of Christ as a testimony to the transforming power of the gospel and the love of God. - Pray that we will experience the goodness of unity in the body of Christ as we worship together on Good Friday as an English Presbytery at the Holy Week Convention, and also as a congregation at our Easter combined family service. The EP Holy Week Convention 2026 will be held from 1-3 April Beloved Missional Community, Holy Week is a sacred journey. It’s a time for us to pause, remember, and realign our hearts with Christ. This year’s Holy Week Convention invites us to follow Jesus in Scripture, in Service, and in His Suffering. We’ll be gathering this Wednesday & Thursday at True Way Presbyterian Church and Friday morning at Suntec. Each message will guide us deeper into the story of Christ’s love and sacrifice. Let’s come together as one church family. Bring your CG, bring a friend, bring someone who needs encouragement. Live-Streaming will also be available on Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm. Dearly beloved GPC family, this Sunday is Palm Sunday, commemorating the triumphal yet humble entry of Jesus into Jerusalem riding on a colt— it is the last Sunday before Easter. As we witness the ongoing wars, conflict and strife happening around us, we realise all the more that our world is truly in present and urgent need of a Saviour and King who reigns in righteousness. Today, let's take time to pray for the places and people experiencing war and conflict, interceding before God on their behalf, that they may come to experience His deliverance and salvation. (Examples of ongoing wars/conflicts include: Russia-Ukraine war, Iran war, Sudan civil war, Myanmar civil war, Israel-Palestine (Gaza/West Bank) conflicts) Here are some ways you can pray: 1) For immediate ceasefires - Pray that God's peace would disarm hearts and halt violence. - Pray that leaders involved will respect the worth and dignity of individual human lives and choose negotiation over destruction. 2) For the displaced and suffering innocents in these war zones - Pray for God's protection over them. - Pray for effective humanitarian aid and medical help to reach those who need it urgently. 3) For godly leaders who have influence among world powers - Pray for God to use such leaders to strive for justice and reconciliation, for moral courage to stand and act for what is right. - Pray that God will empower leaders to play the role of effective mediators between hostile nations and parties. 4) For God's church in these places - Pray that God would work redemptively even in suffering, drawing people toward repentance, reconciliation, and hope in Christ. - Pray that believers will persevere in hope amidst these trials, that they may be faithful witnesses to the power of the gospel. - Pray that the churches in these places will minister to those in need with the love of Christ, bearing the light of Christ in these dark places. Between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, from suffering and death to the resurrection— Christ Jesus our King leads us out of death and despair into everlasting life, joy and peace. Let us not lose hope or be discouraged in these uncertain times, but let us persevere in prayer and in hope, looking forward to the day when He comes again to reign eternally over all the earth! On that day , "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) Amen. See you on 16 Apr for our Church-wide Online Prayer!
