Dhanteras also known as Dhana Trayodashi marks the beginning of Diwali festivities. On this day, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera are worshipped and people seek their blessings to gain prosperity and wealth in their lives. In northern part of India, On the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras, it is said that Aate Ka Halwa is prepared to offer to Goddess Lakshmi, and later distributed to all the people present in the puja. In East India, a dish called Lapsi is prepared with long-grain cracked wheat, sugar and ghee. People also have practice of buying brooms as they are said to be a symbol of the cleanliness and Mahalakshmi resides in clean places. Marriage of Shiva and Parvati (Meenakshi) witnessed by Vishnu, Meenakshi Temple, Madurai  In this temple, Goddess Meenakshi is seen with a parrot in her right hand. It is believed that the shrine is one of the five places where Shiva performed the tandava. There is a huge silver statue of Lord Shiva in the form of Nataraja, in which Nataraja is shown dancing with his right leg raised, and it is completely different from the rest of the image of Nataraja as his left leg is raised in the rest. Every year in April, the festival of “Meenakshi Thirukalyanam”, or the divine marriage of Meenakshi, is celebrated with great pomp. Here, the celebration is a classic example of a female-dominated ceremony known as the Meenakshi Vivah. this festival lasts for a month and includes many events like Rath Festival and Float Utsav. Goddess Meenakshi was married to Lord Sundareswarar on Monday, 20th February 3138 BCE at Madurai, when Moon was in Virgo (Kanya Rasi) and Sun transits Aries (Mesha Rasi).

Pitru Paksha (पितृ पक्ष, Pitṛ pakṣa; "fortnight of the paternal ancestors") is a 16–lunar day period in Sanatan calendar when Hindus pay homage to their ancestors (Pitrs), especially through food offerings. The period is also known as Pitri Paksha. Pithru Paksha roots is said to have begun from Rig Veda. It is for those ancestors who left the legacy of their wisdom, protection, love, and material wealth. As we understand, “ancestors” are parents (who are no more), grandparents, and great-grandparents and great-great-great parents from last seven generations. People honour departed spouses, children, siblings, aunts and uncles, and parents-in-law also during this occasion. It is also an occasion even to pay shradh to friends, neighbours, teachers, mentors, and all beloved people who passed away. Significance: Pithru Paksha is also considered as a time to reflect on the principles of human birth. Hinduism gives high value for bond that exists among all living beings. Pithru Paksha is also the occasion to realise that our life is not just limited to the body. It also reminds about our connection with our loved ones transcending the physical realm. As per several yogic scriptures, the atman or soul is eternal and the human body is peripheral. Similarly, the emotional connect between the living members and those who left the body continues. So, Hindus take this opportunity to express their love by being grateful for everything that has been passed on by our ancestors.
