At a visit to Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore in 2018, a team from GovTech was introduced to Ms Elaine Eng, a 19-year-old painter born with cerebral palsy. Inspired by Elaine’s love for painting, the team built the eCanvas, a device that dispenses paint or moves the canvas by responding to voice commands of the painter. The eCanvas project illustrates how technology can be used to improve and add value to the lives of individuals, making sure that no one gets left behind. StickyBlocs - where parent and child can build their world ❤️🧩 While there is a wide variety of toys available in the market for most children to choose from, there are very few affordable, sensorial play options for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). After meeting with therapists and families at the AWWA Early Intervention Centre, 6 members from GovTech aim to fill the gap by conceptualising StickyBlocs. StickyBlocs is a building playset designed for parents and young children, including those with ASD to help facilitate creative play between parent and child at home! 🔐 Protect your digital assets from external eavesdropping and influence 🔐 3️⃣ Key Takeaways: 📝 Albeit seemingly harmless, objects such as an antenna, a radio device and a laptop can be assembled into tools for eavesdropping, and a malicious actor could use them to view what a victim is doing on his/her computer screen. 💻 In essence, electronic devices emit electromagnetic (EM) radiation when they process information and this could compromise privacy and security as the devices are broadcasting their activities to the world. 💻 There are three possible countermeasures against these attacks: shielding, filtering and masking. Each individual or organisation will need to determine which of the three is most appropriate for them. Simulating 4 million bus rides a day just got wheel-y simpler 🚌 4️⃣ Key Takeaways: 📝 Planning a bus route is never easy as it has to factor in the ripple effects of a given change to the transport network. 💻 GovTech and the Land Transport Authority developed Reroute, a programme that simulates the impact that bus route changes or withdrawals have on commuters in our busy city. 💻 To make this possible, the project team analysed farecard data which captures commuter behaviour and journey patterns to get a good estimate. 💻 Instead of computing hardware, the team relied on managed services on the cloud to minimise configuration time and allow the simulator to be scaled on a pay-per-use model. myResponder — shave time, save lives ‼️ 5️⃣ Key Takeaways: 📝 According to the SCDF, more than 1,900 people suffer from Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest every year in Singapore, with a survival rate of just 3%. 💻 myResponder is an app developed by the SCDF in collaboration with GovTech. 💻 The app enables the quick crowdsourcing of community first responders, to improve patients' chances of survival. With early performance of CPR, a suspected cardiac arrest patient's survival chance goes up by two to three times. 💻 Whenever the SCDF is notified of a medical emergency and assesses it to be a case of cardiac arrest, it sends out a message to registered CFRs that are within 400 metres of the patient. 📝 As of September 2019, there are more than 60,000 registered responders and over 31,000 responses to cases. Sick of misplacing or damaging your MCs? 🤧 6️⃣ Key Takeaways: 📝 In 2017, about one million hardcopy MCs were generated by SingHealth. 📝 Hardcopy MCs are easily misplaced, damaged or forged. There could also be hassle of keeping records of employees’ submissions. 💻 A team from Open Government Products has built a digital medical certificate system - DigiMC. 💻 The team has put safeguards in place, to address privacy concerns about data disseminated on DigiMC. For example, patients are required to unlock the digital MC with their date of birth. 💻 Employers need not worry about the authenticity of Digital MCs generated via DigiMC as they are hosted on a Government-affiliated web domain and each digital MC has a uniquely identifiable key. 💻 The team plans to implement DigiMC across all SingHealth institutions by early 2020.
