China uses AI software to enhance its surveillance capabilities A Reuters review of government documents reveals that dozens of Chinese firms have developed software that uses artificial intelligence to sort data collected on residents, in response to high demand from authorities looking to upgrade their surveillance tools. More to Know According to more than 50 publicly available documents examined by Reuters, dozens of entities in China have purchased such software, known as "one person, one file," over the last four years. The technology improves on existing software, which simply collects data and then leaves it up to humans to organise. The new software improves on Beijing's current surveillance strategy. Although China's existing systems can collect data on individuals, it is up to law enforcement and other users to organise it.

Financial Assistance for Drone Adoption TechNews Under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization (SMAM), financial assistance of 100% of the cost of the drone, as well as contingent expenditure, is extended to Farm Machinery Training & Testing Institutes. Indian startups raised over $10 billion funds in first quarter of 2022 Indian startups have raised more than $10 billion from investors in the first three months of 2022, reflecting the country's consistent pace of funding deals, despite concerns that global headwinds could stymie the momentum. More to Know In the first quarter of 2022, startups raised approximately $10.5 billion across 329 transactions, matching the $10.4 billion investment from 315 transactions in the previous quarter, but nearly doubling the $5.7 billion raised from 225 transactions in the year-ago period. While deal volume is still increasing, it is likely that a significant portion of these transactions were completed late last year and announced during the first quarter. The impact of global headwinds in early 2022, as well as a sharp drop in the stock prices of domestic and global tech companies, is likely to be felt in the coming quarters.

Pixxel launched first commercial imaging satellite aboard SpaceX’s Falcon-9 Rocket Pixxel, a spacetech startup, has added another feather to its cap by successfully launching its first full-fledged commercial imaging satellite, Shakuntala. The satellite was launched into space aboard a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on April 1. More to Know According to the startup, Shakuntala is home to one of the highest resolution hyperspectral commercial cameras ever flown to space. The launch is part of the startup's ambitious plan to build a constellation of low-Earth-orbit imaging satellites. The satellite will assist the startup in curating datasets that will allow Pixxel to monitor and predict global occurrences in real-time. The launch comes just days after the startup raised $25 million in funding led by Canada-based Radical Ventures.
