CAUSE AND SOLUTION ESSAY
💠There may be many possible answering strategies, but we’ll use this good and time-tested essay structure:
1⃣Introduction
2⃣Body paragraph 1 – causes
3⃣Body paragraph 2 – solutions
4⃣Conclusion
💠Influence of human beings on the world's ecosystem is leading to the extinction of species and loss of bio-diversity.
⚠️What are the primary causes of loss of bio-diversity?
⚠️What solutions can you suggest?
Introduction
Write the introduction in 2 sentences:
Sentence 1 - paraphrase the question (restate the problem):
Despite knowing about biodiversity’s importance for a long time, human activity has been causing massive extinctions of different species.
Sentence 2 - tell the examiner what you’re going to describe in your essay:
This essay will examine the main causes of loss of biodiversity and possible solutions of this problem.
Body paragraph 1 - causes
Sentence 1 - state 2 main causes:
The two main causes of species extinction are change of their habitats and overexploitation of natural resources.
Sentences 2-4 - explain the first cause + give an example:
When humans artificially transform the environment, they destroy vegetation and animals’ natural habitat. For instance, to build new roads people are cutting down the trees and cementing the soil, altering the environment. Because of that, a lot of species are dying out.
Sentences 5-7 - explain the second cause + give an example:
Also, when the activities connected with capturing and harvesting a natural resource are too intense in a particular area, the resource becomes exhausted. For example, too frequent fishing doesn’t leave enough time for fish to reproduce and makes them disappear.
The last sentence - give a short summary (if needed)
In other words, human activities often deplete local flora and fauna and cause loss of bio-diversity.
Body paragraph 2 - solutions
Sentence 1 - give 1-2 possible solutions
Some possible solutions to this problem are protecting natural areas and promoting awareness among people.
Sentences 2-4 - explain how each of the solutions solves the problem (you may give an example if you wish)
By protecting areas where human activity is limited and avoiding overexploitation of its resources, we can save the untouched environment and prevent species from dying out. Moreover, the next step in fighting bio-diversity loss is informing the general population about the dangers of this problem. This way, people will be more conscious of the environment and won’t overuse or destroy its resources.
Conclusion
Sentence 1 - restate the causes of the problem
To conclude, people’s activities that change the environment have negative impact on the world's ecosystem.
Sentence 2 - remind the reader of possible solutions
However, we can significantly lessen the extinction of species by protecting natural areas and enlightening people as to this problem.

☘️ Cause & Solution
✅ Q: Each year, the crime rate increases. What are the causes of crime and what could be done to prevent this rise in criminal activity?
📚 Answer:
Crime is an issue of increasing concern around the world, and more money than ever before is being spent on the detection and punishment of criminal activity. The reasons why people commit crime are countless, but drugs and alcohol, social problems and poverty play a major role. To solve these problems, governments can either focus on draconian punishments, or improve employment opportunities, invest in good housing projects, and tackle drug and alcohol abuse.
One of the main causes of criminality is the use, sale, and trafficking of narcotics. For example, the sale of drugs is organized by armed criminal gangs who illegally traffic drugs and control their business with extreme violence. Drug-related crime does not end there; drug users often steal to fund their habit, resulting in further acts of petty crime. The social problems connected with crime are said to be the result of single-parent families, absent role models and bad living conditions. The children from these broken families often become criminals because they feel alienated from society. Poverty is also a reason behind crime. When unskilled jobs pay so little and prices are so high, it is easy to see why some turn to crime for an income.
Crime can, of course, be dealt with by toughening criminal laws and introducing longer custodial sentences for persistent criminals, but some of the best ways to deal with crime may be to deal with the social causes. Increasing employment opportunities in poorer areas would improve living standards, which would mean access to affordable housing and education. Government funding for drug and alcohol rehabilitation programmes would help reduce dependency on stimulants and the need for criminal activity that surrounds them.
In conclusion, crime is a major issue, but cracking down on offenders with harsh penal system is not the only way. These problems can be solved through the government providing jobs and funding which should raise living standards and dramatically reduce crime levels.

☘️ Reason + Positive/Negative Development
✅ Q: Many developing countries are currently expanding their tourist industries. Why is this the case? Is it a positive or negative development?
📚 Answer:
In this day and age, tourism has become an important industry in many countries. As a result, more and more countries are investing in this field. There are some factors that have led governments to focus much of their spending on expanding their tourism sector, but in my opinion, that is a negative trend.
There are several reasons behind increased government spending on tourism. First, many developing countries have plenty of tourism potential that is yet to be exploited, including areas of natural beauty, clean beaches and national parks with high biodiversity. By way of illustration, Vingroup, which is one of the biggest conglomerates in Vietnam, regards tourism as its primary source of profit. Furthermore, tourism promotes mutual cultural understanding. If a country welcomes millions of visitors per year, it can adopt aspects of cultures and traditions from all over the world. By the same token, the tourists themselves learn about that country’s culture as well as interact with tourists from other countries.
However, this unchecked growth in international tourism may lead to some adverse effects. First, although tourism can boost a nation’s economy, a majority of locals do not benefit from it. It is usually the big companies and hotels who earn the most, not the underprivileged, who can only make a modest profit from selling souvenir and small gifts. Moreover, tourism can also be detrimental to the environment. As tourists grow in numbers, they are likely to put a greater pressure on the local environment, for example by dumping waste on beaches or disfiguring the surface of ancient caves.
In conclusion, an increasing number of countries are investing in tourism because of its financial benefits, but I think this trend may cause adverse effects on the environment, and it may only benefit a select few.

💥 Let's talk about conjunctions.
More specifically, coordinating conjunctions.
These particular conjunctions have slightly different rules to other ones. The coordinating conjunctions are:
- and
- but
- so
- yet
- or
- nor
- for
Honestly, you only really need to worry about 'and / but / so' for what I'm talking about today.
When you read news articles and books, you will often see sentences beginning with 'and / but / so'. However, essays are quite formal and some teachers may consider it to be a bit too casual to start sentences with these, especially 'and' and 'but'.
There are simple alternatives, depending on the context, that I would recommend as replacements for the start of your sentences.
* and -> also / furthermore / in addition
* but -> however / nevertheless
* so -> thus / therefore / as a result
Note: Be careful. Some of these have slightly different applications too, for example 'therefore' and 'as a result' are used in slightly different ways.
The other little point to remember about 'and / but / so' is when they are in the middle of a sentence combining two clauses, they should have a comma before them (not after).
Cheers

☘️ Agree/Disagree
✅ Q: Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems as well as practical problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
📚 Answer:
Living in a country where one has to speak a language other than their native tongue could lead to quite disturbing problems, both on a social level and a practical one. Therefore, I am in complete agreement with the statement.
A language barrier often translates into other forms of barriers, in addition to basic communication. To order something online or through the phone, for example, a person should have some understanding of the service provider’s language, otherwise they would probably not be able to place an order. The same problem occurs when one goes on a job interview, especially one that is not in person. Without a clear understanding of the employer’s language, the candidate is unlikely to make the best first impression and obtain the job.
While less severe in everyday, especially face-to-face, interactions, the problem still remains unresolved as missing even the most minute detail of an utterance might lead to misunderstanding and subsequent complications, most notably in understanding culture-bound norms, rituals, or propositions. What is more, a person with little understanding of a language may never find friends, at least lasting ones, or a lover as both cases would require in-depth discussions and arguments on a range of subjects to be held.
It is true that there are non-verbal factors involved in any interaction, such as facial expressions and hand gestures, but they never even come close to clear articulation of language in terms of communicating the meaning the speaker has in mind. This very important missing factor tends to result in the breakdown of communication which in turn impedes the formation of a relationship.
In conclusion, I believe a language barrier is nothing we can dismiss lightly, especially when living in a country where the official language is one we do not know.
