I looked in the mirror, depressed by my appearance, and said to myself: Starting today, I will never eat sweets again and I’ll work out 7 days a week. Then I watched a 10 min motivational video and did some push-ups. The next morning, I had almost forgotten about it. I am probably not the only one who has experienced this. I thought I lacked the willpower... But I was wrong! Conventional wisdom claims that willpower is the key to changing your life. But that’s bullshit, advice for most people. If you want to change your life or develop new habits, the best way is to start small. Willpower is part of the equation, but you can’t rely on it. We tend to make the same mistake over and over again. We try to change our lives drastically. From one day to the next, we eat vegan, whole foods and hit the gym 7 days a week. Nothing wrong with that, if you manage to stay consistent. But usually it works out as good as it did for me. We start out motivated, but as the weeks go by, our motivation fades and the new gym membership becomes just a guilty reminder of our failure. We simply take on too much at once. If there’s one thing I want you to take away from it, then it’s this: Start small and don’t beat yourself up for failing. With that being said, I wish y’all an amazing rest of the week! Best, Leander
