Thanks to your generosity, we raised nearly 35,000 roubles for Mary's Meals at the Pub Quiz last night. That is enough to ensure that 17 children get a nourishing school dinner for a whole year! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

This Sunday, at the overwhelming request of the congregation, we will be moving to an alternative venue, much closer to the centre of Moscow. Please join us at ul. Zoologicheskaya 4 for our 11 a.m. service. A map and a video of how to get there from Barrikadnaya metro are attached. Directions: Take exit 2 at Barrikadnaya metro. Turn right out of the station. At the crossroads by the zoo, turn right onto Bolshaya Gruzinskaya. You will see a bus stop in front of you. If you have limited mobility or it is raining hard, you can take any bus that stops there for one stop, but unless the bus is actually waiting, it is quicker to walk, as it is only a very short distance. Pass under the bridge that links the two halves of the zoo. Where the road forks (by Azbuka Vkusa), take the right fork onto ul. Zoologicheskaya. Follow the road round to the right. Cross the road and after the first building (2a) turn into the courtyard. No. 4 is the tall building on your right. On Sunday, we will have ushers downstairs to direct people. Head up to the 1st floor (UK) / 2nd floor (Russian) to the Institute of Photography.

Here are the full lyrics of this beautiful hymn: Take this moment, sign and space; Take my friends around; Here among us make the place Where your love is found. Take the time to call my name, Take the time to mend Who I am and what I've been, All I've failed to tend. Take the tiredness of my days, Take my past regret, Letting your forgiveness touch All I can't forget. Take the little child in me Scared of growing old; Help me here to find my worth Made in God's own mould. Take my talents, take my skills, Take what's yet to be; Let my life be yours, and yet Let it still be me.

Last Sunday our congregation sang "Take This Moment, Sign, and Space", a hidden gem from the Scotland's Iona Community. The text of the hymn was written by John L. Bell, and the music was composed by Graham Maule — both key voices of Iona. This beautiful song is a moving prayer that asks for ordinary moments and human relationships to be blessed and transformed; and reminds us that whenever we gather in the name of Christ, we create a space where the sacred can truly dwell.

ST ANDREW’S UPDATE FOR WEEK COMMENCING 30th AUGUST THIS SUNDAY – THE THIRTEENTH SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY 11:00 Service of the Word with distribution of Reserved Sacrament. Our 11 a.m. service will be held at the Izmailovo Kremlin. Everyone is welcome. The full address is Izmailovskoye shosse 73zh. Please see the posts above for directions on how to reach the venue from Partizanskaya metro. For those of you not able to be with us in person the service will also be on ZOOM. Please join us, using this link so that you can be part of our fellowship. The service will be posted to our YouTube channel afterwards for those not able to be with us live. You can find the order of service on the Services and Events page of our Church of England website and on our local website. As of this Sunday, we will be distributing Reserved Sacrament at our 11 a.m. services EVERY WEEK. CHANGE OF VENUE As many of you will know from personal experience, our current location out at Izmailovo is quite a long way from the centre of Moscow. A number of people have requested that we look for alternative premises, particularly as our growing numbers are making our current venue a little ‘cosy’ on occasions! Fortunately, we have found new premises just by the Moscow Zoo, which we believe will suit us better. We have submitted all our paperwork to the Ministry of Justice and plan to hold our first service there on Sunday, 6th September. We will send out full details of how to get there in separate posts during the week. PUB QUIZ – SAVE THE DATE Our next Pub Quiz in aid of Mary’s Meals will be on Monday, 7th September, at Paddy’s Irish Pub (metro: Belorusskaya). Please join us for an evening of fun, raising money for a wonderful charity, helping young people in developing countries build their futures, by remaining in full-time education. Please see Giles for more details. "The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord." This past Sunday, our offertory hymn was one of the great doctrinal hymns of the Anglican tradition — Samuel John Stone’s "The Church’s one foundation," written in 1866. Stone composed this hymn as part of his Lyra Fidelium ("Lyre of the Faithful"), a series of twelve hymns explaining the Apostles' Creed. This particular hymn was written to affirm the article, "I believe in the holy catholic church," and it reminds believers that, despite difficulties and differences, the Church belongs to Christ and is built on His love, truth, and sacrifice. The majestic tune was composed in 1864 by Samuel Sebastian Wesley — grandson of Charles Wesley — and together, text and tune form a hymn that has strengthened Anglicans for over 150 years.

A big thank you to everyone who prayed with us this Sunday, read Scripture, offered a homily, treated us with delicious Indian pies, and to all who stayed after the service for the talk about the Book of Common Prayer. It was a real joy to gather together as a community, and we're so grateful for each person who contributed in big and small ways 🌸

This coming Sunday, members of the Russian language Bible study and our Youth group will hold a meeting dedicated to the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. We'll discuss the history of this prayer book, how it's used in both liturgical and personal prayer, and share our own experiences with this foundational book. Everyone is welcome — if you're interested in the liturgical tradition of the Anglican Church, we'd love to see you there.

Last Sunday, our congregation sang the hymn "Fill your hearts with joy and gladness" to the tune "Ode to Joy" (adapted from Beethoven's Ninth Symphony). The text is a paraphrase of Psalm 147 written by Timothy Dudley-Smith (1926–2024), a Church of England bishop and one of the most significant hymnwriters of the 20th century who in 2003 was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to hymnody. The text of the hymn follows the structure of Psalm 147 closely, moving through three main themes: praise for God's provision in creation, gratitude for his care over the vulnerable, and acknowledgment of his sovereignty over nature and history. The hymn balances exuberant calls to worship with quieter reflections on human frailty ✨
