🚨*[TONIGHT] Environment is destiny!* In my most previous post (just above this one), I answered a question about Open Universities. However, this draws from a mental model that cuts across multiple facets of life which is: Environment is Destiny! Work is another fantastic example. As a Third World African, be skeptical of remote work opportunities from the First World. The issue is not in the work itself, but the remote. The remote aspect bars you from building a reputation in that career in a manner that is competitive with those physically entrenched in that environment. Sure, moving there to compete is not easy… nothing worthwhile is. My job is to simply call it as it is and trust your creativity to connect all outstanding dots. Just like distance learning, remote work offers convenience upfront. You get to earn an income without dragging your physical form across distant shores. If you’re lucky to be chosen, you could live anywhere (Bali, Kigali, Accra, Rio de Janeiro) and live well, though your employers are situated in the First World. Yeah, they typically are. But in exchange for that upfront convenience, you leave such treasures on the table. I’ll mention just 3 for now. Here’s what they won’t tell you you’re dropping: *1) Proximity to power:* Those who decide promotions and partnerships are physically in the room. You’re just a face in a zoom call. *2) Serendipity:* Those destiny defining conversations that happen in an elevator, at the coffee machine, or after the meeting that officially ended. These moments can only be created and steered by physical presence. *3) Institutional gravity:* Over time, the people physically embedded in an environment accumulate social weight while you remain a contractor of convenience. Useful, but structurally disposable. Heck, they didn’t even care enough to sponsor your work visa. And they tempt you (or maybe you tempt yourself) into thinking “it’s the same work”… nah, fam. Lai Lai. No gree. Your in-office counterpart is not just doing the same job. They are building a network in a geography where that network actually compounds into board seats, advisory roles, investor introductions, and lateral moves on the chessboard that you will never even hear about on your slack channel. Remote work from the Third World is not a career strategy. It is an income strategy. And the difference between those two things is the difference between renting and owning. The income feels like progress, and I get it… compared to where you’re coming from, it is some progress. Still, even the blind can see puppet strings here. This is not a moral judgment. Get the bag, bro. After all, na person wey don chop, go fit shout “SOVEREIGNTY” 😂 If you have to do that for now, sure, I get it. But do not let them sell you a counterfeit map to the game of life. *I will go deeper on tonight’s episode of Night School* But remember, Environment is destiny… because environment determines who sees you, who remembers you, who fights for you, and who thinks of you when the next door opens. Almost no success book mentions this specific application of leverage, but elite players of the game use it silently. Using it strategically, intentionally and almost ritualistically can multiply your outcomes in life without any extra labor. Everyone you admire has used it in some shape or form to expand their center of gravity and attract juicier opportunities. It’s used for good and for evil; By the upright and criminals alike. For now I’ll give a hint. At its core, it applies the idea that the human animal is a slave to perceptions. In a previous Night School episode, I explained how the sorcery of branding developed to enhance the perceived value of a product in order to attract more demand. This applies the same principle, not to inanimate products this time, but to human beings. Applying this principle to yourself will expand your perceived value in the game of life. Naturally, this isn’t in books. It’s not the sort of knowledge that ought to be mainstream otherwise charlatans and fraudsters would abuse it. Or if it existed in any book, such material would be shoved into a dark corner such that nobody would ever know its name. I’ll go into detail tonight. Human behavior is contingent upon the incentive and consequence structure surrounding them. This was a major part of the last 2 Night School episodes. As I also explained, this idea precipitated the Celestial debate in the book of Job. According to the story, God praised job as an upright and incorruptible man. The devil contested that it was inaccurate to judge a man’s faithfulness in the presence of the incentive structure motivating him to be faithful. He maintained that once the incentive structure was removed, the man would reveal his true self. God disagreed with him but was open to putting his theory to the test. And they bet on it. Eventually, the devil lost the bet, because though his overall theory was correct, Job proved to be in the tiny minority of men who did not require an incentive structure to be faithful. Job even prodded at the consequence structure with “Even though He slays me, yet will I trust in Him” Job’s behavior was not a mainstream experience, that’s why a whole book was written about him. The majority of humanity will fail their equivalents of the incentive-consequence test. Can you be faithful to THE WAY on the strength of conviction alone? Or are you like the rest of men who need an incentive to be consistent, or a consequence for leaving it? When the 21st century Canaanites flaunt their spoils, does your heart start to waiver and wonder if perhaps their path is worth dabbling into? Do you still remember who and what you are? Are you still accountable to the rituals, taboos and non-negotiable standards of this identity, regardless of what’s apparent? Stay Unreasonable, — J.O. 🚨THE NEW CLASS DIVIDE! A year's worth of developments have already happened within the first few weeks of 2026. A new class divider is being formed as we speak. Are you sensitive to it? It will be between those who accomplish tasks with 'follow come' human intelligence versus those who will accomplish 100X more with the help of AI. But it's still not that simple. All AI models are not created equal. The best models are costly. And I'm not even talking about paying $20 for the lowest tiered paid plan. Paying $20/mo was a flex in 2022. The real competition will be among those who are on the $200/mo plans, sometimes multiple $200/mo plans. What happens to those who wish to participate at that level but cannot afford the cost of AI tokens? There has been no response to that unspoken question but everyone is thinking it, waiting for the first person to say the quiet part out loud. Sam Altman said recently that AI will become like a basic utility. And you see the thing with utilities? On paper, it is optional, but not having it would be disadvantageous to you when everyone else is using it to advance. There are more quiet parts not being said out loud here that would give you an indication of where we're going. Recently, three Amazon data centers, two in the UAE and one in Bahrain, were hit by Iranian drones or missiles. I don't think a lot of people heard about it. But if anything had happened to OpenAI or Anthropic? 🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃 Anyway, it's that time of the week again. Gold prices have shot up due to recent conflict in the Middle East. As the Americans say “Follow the money”. Gold prices are usually an indicator of global economic (un)certainty. Gold is often nicknamed “God’s money” and is one of the only accepted stores of value that has maintained its status through millennia. So when investors (and Central Banks) sense uncertainty, they move around their money in favor of buying Gold. Consequently, Gold prices rise (ya know, Demand and Supply). It’s pretty good for the economies blessed with gold and the capitalists involved in its extraction and transportation. But it’s also a good time for the farmers because valuable as it might be, you cannot eat gold. Agro-based economies will do just fine if they manage their advantage well. Moving away from geopolitics and relating this to Night School topics… Remember last week’s talk about Hunter gatherers VERSUS Farmers? Farming is often tedious, repetitive and unglamorous… but it’s the one activity that led to the predictable prosperity of the human race. As an individual, installing the farmer mindset and its dependent habits, rituals and taboos, will ensure that you always flourish… in all circumstances of life. Farmers are: - patient: knowing that you always reap much later than you sow - ⁠diligent: rising earlier than others to do what is required - ⁠disciplined: to do the same repetitive tasks regardless of their monotony - ⁠discerning: to know that all crops/lands/methods/climates do not produce equal yields or rewards, therefore scale of preference and opportunity cost are necessary tools for decision making - ⁠self-sufficient: and focused on their own farm. They are very hard to tempt or trick out of position because they trust their own abilities to provide what they need - ⁠vigilant: because what you do not protect will be lost, stolen or sabotaged by external or even domestic threats (I learned this last bit from the great Pastor Mike Murdock, God bless him) However, farmers also face temptations of: - sloth - ⁠complacency - ⁠miscalculations where you might treat a seed as a harvest - ⁠not setting up proper defenses against those who might wish to steal your harvest and other rewards of your diligence - ⁠being so used to abundance that you do not anticipate famines and/or the occasional bad harvest. Remember Joseph? - ⁠abiding by obsolete farming practices versus new and improved methods that ensure exponential growth - ⁠an untamed desire for novelty: a human impulse, but one which must be brought to heel to prevent drifting Please apply this write up to both carnal (physical) and spiritual (non-physical) aspects of life. Apply it also to the interconnectedness of the human experience across: - wealth, business & career - ⁠health and wellbeing - ⁠love and relationships Temptations to drift are an expected and inescapable part of the human condition. As a farmer therefore, it is your non-negotiable responsibility to keep yourself daily accountable to the habits, mindset, culture, rituals and taboos of your IDENTITY as a farmer. Borrowing from the words of the Psalmist… You’re a tree… planted by the rivers of water. You’re never in want or thirsty. And you always bear fruit in season.
